  • Intel launches Core i7-930, Atom N470 CPUs - Intel's finally concocted a replacement for the Core i7-920, the last remaining Bloomfield CPU from Intel's November 2008 launch. The Core i7-930 runs at 2.8GHz, with 8MB of L3 cache and 4.8 GT/sec QPI interface. Intel's list price is $294, $10 more than the Core i7-920. Besides the new i7, Intel's also rolled out a new Atom CPU. The N470 is based on Intel's PineView platform. It's a single-core CPU clocked at 1.83GHz with 512K of cache. Official price is $75, making it the priciest Atom CPU Intel offers at the moment. TDP is 6.5 watts.
  • Athlon II X4 635: Quad-Cores Are In - All results summed up, it's obvious that the performance of Athlon II X4 635 CPU are in general much closer to the much more expensive Core i5 661 model than the price-matched Core i3 530. The memory controller brought Athlon advantage in memory tests, both in terms of latency and performance.
  • Newegg Selling Fake Intel CPUs? - HardOCP's forum user Nix reported he bought an Intel Core i7 model 920 from Newegg earlier this week. When he got his CPU opened, he found out that it seems everything in the box is "fake"...including the box. Heh? :-)
  • AMD 890GX SB850 Chipset Debut: Phenom II X6 Ready - Gigabyte's first AMD offering based on the latest 890GX chipset is an absolutely phenomenal motherboard. Not only does it come with the latest technologies, such as USB 3.0, SATA 3.0 and the ATI Radeon HD 4290 integrated graphics processor, but it also right out of the box comes with more horsepower than the previous generation of AMD Mainboards and has features that will appeal across a wide spectrum of users. With a higher level of performance, it was repeatedly the top performer in both games and benchmarks.
  • Western Digital RE4-GP 2 TB Hard Disk Drive Tested - TechARP takes a further look at the Western Digital RE4-GP 2 TB Hard Disk Drive. Thanks to its 'possibly' higher spindle speed, dual processors and large 64 MB buffer, the Western Digital RE4-GP hard disk drive was able to trump the phenomenally fast Samsung Spinpoint F1 and Western Digital VelociRaptor hard disk drives, even though they have much higher spindle speeds of 7200 RPM and 10,000 RPM respectively.
  • HotHardware and TechVi Video Podcast - Topics include the new 890GX chipset from AMD, Western Digital's SiliconEdge Blue SSD, some fun with ATI's Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 Edition and 6-screens, and porting Quake II and Quake III to the Motorola Droid.

  • New Microsoft Courier tablet video leaked - The Courier looks like it will be set up in a direct battle with the Apple iPad. It has been designed to be a very portable and mobile device with a weight of just over a pound and a thickness of under an inch. When closed its footprint will be a little larger than a 5" by 7" photo. Unlike previously believed, the device isn't based on Windows 7 and instead will run a similar mobile operating system to that used on the Zune HD, Windows Mobile 7 Series and the recently confirmed "Project Pink" devices, why could suggest use of Microsoft's Metro UI. As with the Zune HD, the Courier is expected to use a Tegra 2 chip. The Courier will also include a built-in camera, headphone jack and stylus, the latter to support its pen-centric interface, which is also designed to include finger touch and gesture controls.

  • Microsoft: New Windows 7 phones won't run older programs - Emphasizing its departure from its previous generation of mobile devices, Microsoft Corp. on Thursday said its new Windows Phone 7 Series devices won't run programs from older versions of Windows-based phones. That break means thousands of applications designed for older Microsoft phones will not work on the new ones, and Microsoft will have to start from the beginning in the increasingly intense race for dominance in mobile applications.
  • Microsoft confirms no Windows Phone 7 for HD2 - Pocket-lint has received word from Microsoft's Oded Ran that there are no plans to upgrade the HD2. So... are they excited about the free press during the Super Bowl? Not so much.
