Sunday Tech Reading - tech

  • Beware Of Monday - KPNQwest Bancrupt! - I already mentioned that in the latest tech reading. The shutdown could jeopardize crucial online functions for the company's 100,000 European business clients who rely on it for business from e-mail transmissions to Web access.
  • Unhackable Website? - The Russian government has deemed Putin's new website, which features everything from his speeches to pictures of the former KGB chief and his family walking their dogs, hacker-proof. According to a Kremlin spokesman, some 500,000 people have visited the site and 96 hackers have tried to corrupt it. All have failed.
  • InnoVISION Ships EIO WaveLinker BlueTooth - InnoVISION introduces the EIO WaveLinker - Bluetooth USB Dongle and Bluetooth Compact Flash card. EIO WaveLinker Bluetooth adapters are BlueTooth v1.1 compliant devices that enables Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices such as PDAs and phones to connect and communicate wirelessly with a PC or laptop through any available USB or Compact Flash interface.
  • EverGlide MousePad Review -This particular EverGlide mousepad is black, with the logo on the bottom left. It has rubber feet on the bottom that make it so it does not move around in intense FPS gameplay. Little note here, my FPS gameplay is VERY instense :). It has a smoothed over (slightly textured) top that allows my Logitech Optical to glide across it easily with no drags (hence the name EverGlide).
  • Kingston PC2700 DDR333 ValueRAM Review  - PC Stats has written their review of Kingston PC2700 DDR333 ValueRAM.
  • ATI ALL-IN-WONDER RADEON 8500 Review - The ATI All-In-Wonder offers pure performance and an incredible array of multimedia features. These features also come at a price. With a MSRP of $399.99, you won't be able to find this card on the cheap. You could pick up a high-end GeForce4 Ti4600 for about the same price, however your money would be better spent on a card such as the All-In-Wonder Radeon 8500. Why shell out that much pocket change for FPS when you could turn your system into a true multimedia center?
  • GeForce4 Ti 4200 vs Radeon - X-bit labs examines the GeForce4 Ti 4200 and Radeon 8500LE in a graphics card shootout.
  • GeForce4 Reviews - VisionTek GeForce4 Ti 4200  / MSI GeForce4 Ti 4600-VTD / PNY Verto GeForce4 Ti 4600 / Gainward GeForce4 PowerPack! Ultra/750XP GS / VisionTek GeForce4 Ti 4200 / eVGA GeForce4 Ti4200
  • Hands on with Windows XP Service Pack 1 Beta  - Microsoft has released a beta version of Windows XP Service Pack 1 to 10,000 testers. Judging from the beta, when SP1 becomes available in the third quarter few surprises will greet those who have already downloaded bug fixes and security patches using Windows Update. Almost everything in the Service Pack is already downloadable from Microsoft or will be in the near future.
  • Hide the Windows 98 / IE "throbber" - For those of you who aren't familiar with the term, a "throbber" is the animated graphic that appears in the upper right corner of most web browsers. The function of a throbber is to let the user know, by displaying animation, that the browser is busy retrieving information. ThrobOff is a small collection of Windows registration files that lets you choose to display or not display the animated throbber - without breaking or altering Windows or IE in any way.
  • Windows .NET Server BETA 3  - Microsoft UK are now offering Windows .NET Server BETA 3 CDs for FREE.
  • Panorama PV230DSK - The highly styled Panoram PV230DSK is the first visualization display aimed at the "professional consumer" market and provides 2.4 Megapixels of working real-estate featuring a fully articulated swing arm and Digital Direct DVI inputs.
  • VisualRoute for Windows 6.1 Beta  - VisualRoute is a visual, fast, and integrated ping, whois, and traceroute program that automatically analyzes connectivity problems, displaying the results on a world map.
  • Active SMART Monitor 1.11 - Active SMART Monitor is a full-featured failure-prediction agent for machines using Windows 95, 98, NT, Me, 2000 and XP. Sitting in the system tray, it monitors hard disks and alerts you to impending failure. The program uses Self Monitoring and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) built into all new hard disks, and can predict failures on your hard drives.
  • WfpAdmin 1.03 - This Windows2000/XP tool allows users to dynamically disable Windows File Protection and configure Windows File Protection settings.
  • ATV2000 RC1  - Freeware ATV2000 is new generation of TV viewing and capture application based on old ATV, but with reworked core.
  • DVD Decrypter 3.1.1.0 - DVD Decrypter is a free tool which enables you decrypt and copy a DVD to your PC's hard disk. From there you can choose to watch them with the likes of PowerDVD and WinDVD or you can re-encode them to MPEG1 (VCD) or DivX.
  • Dell Detonator 29.18 For Geforce2  - Dell have released a new Detonator driver version 29.18 for the Geforce2 Go.
  • Compaq UB2 Drivers - COMPAQ has released new Internet Keyboard Driver for Windows NT/2000/XP.
