  • Bugbear email steals card data - A devastating new computer virus is causing havoc around the world as it crashes computers, distributes confidential e-mails and steals credit card details. The Bugbear virus is seen by computer safety firms as the most serious bug yet. It began spreading last week and has now reached hundreds of thousands of computers in more than 100 countries. It targets computers used at home that lack updated anti-virus protection. In some instances, the virus activates printers to churn out pages of meaningless text.
  • Russian hacker gets 3-year sentence  - Russian hacker, lured to the United States by the FBI under the ruse of a job interview in a case that prompted a sharp rebuke from Moscow, was sentenced Friday to three years in prison for computer crime.  It is also the first time a U.S. agency has been formally accused of hacking into a foreign computer network, as the bureau downloaded evidence off suspects' computer networks in Russia, they added.  
  • Graphic IC makers eye new memory technology - Trying to take the lead in defining next-generation memory technology, graphics chip vendor ATI Technologies Inc. said it has worked with DRAM vendors to define GDDR-3, an alternative to DDR-2 that should hit the market next year with speeds starting at 500-MHz.
