  • 'Critical' Outlook Express Hole Plugged - Microsoft has released a security alert acknowledging a serious security hole in its Outlook Express e-mail client. The vulnerability, found in Outlook Express versions 5.5 and 6.0, could allow a remote attacker to take control of PCs running Outlook Express using malicious code embedded in an e-mail message. Microsoft rated the severity of the flaw as critical for end users, but low for both Internet and intranet servers. The company also issued a patch for the vulnerability.
  • Introducing the latest hacker exploit: War Phoning - Bluetooth-enabled phones and PDAs with inadequate security could become the target of the next wave of security exploits, allowing phreakers to filch confidential information or even make calls using someone else's identity.
  • Anti-hacking copyright law to get review  -  The United States Copyright Office is launching a rare round of public comment on rules that bar people from breaking through digital copy-protection technology on works such as music, movies, software or electronic books. Regulators aren't looking to change the law, but they are looking for public suggestions on what kinds of activity should be legalized in spite of the rules. This is only the second time in the controversial law's five-year history that the public has been able to pitch in with suggestions for exceptions. Critics of the law say they will use the opportunity to draw wider public attention to the way its restrictions can affect ordinary people.
  • Dino-mummy shows some skin - A mummified dinosaur, unwrapped from the rocks of Montana, has revealed how the creature looked and how it lived 77 million years ago - down to the texture of its skin and the contents of its stomach, scientists say.
  • Women shun Lara Croft - The inventor of the Tomb Raider computer game is seeking more women to work as testers at its Derby headquarters.  Core Design is launching an Angel of Darkness version of its hit Lara Croft game, but so far no women have applied to work as testers for the project. Company spokesman Gary Reading says he would love more women with computer skills to test the popular game.
  • WB Giving Life to Anime 'Akira' - Warner Bros. Pictures will produce a live-action, English-language remake of Japan's anime classic "Akira."  Director Stephen Norrington, who has just wrapped superhero drama "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen," has reteamed with "League" screenwriter James Robinson to develop the project.
