  • Win-XP Help Center request wipes your HD - A malicious Win-XP Help Center request can easily and silently delete the contents of any directory on your Windows machine, we've learned. Worse, MS has rolled the fix silently into SP1 without making a public announcement. A good sketch of the problem in English, along with a harmless self-test, can be found here, thanks to Mike at http://unity.skankhouse.org, who did some tinkering after noticing a tip on a BBS
  • New 'moon' found around Earth - An amateur astronomer may have found another moon of the Earth. Experts say it may have only just arrived. Much uncertainty surrounds the mysterious object, designated J002E2. It could be a passing chunk of rock captured by the Earth's gravity, or it could be a discarded rocket casing coming back to our region of space. It was discovered by Bill Yeung from his observatory in Arizona and reported as a passing Near-Earth Object. It was soon realised however that far from passing us it was in a 50-day orbit around the Earth. Paul Chodas of Nasa's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California says it must have just arrived or it would have been easily detected long ago. Calculations suggest it may have been captured earlier this year.
  • Intel plans secure microprocessors - New computer hardware designed to keep sensitive information locked in a "virtual vault" has been announced by the world's largest microchip maker, Intel. The new hardware will not only protect data against hackers but also stop PC users copying and distributing copyright-protected digital files via the internet, the company claims. However, Intel has not provided details of how the anti-copying feature would work.
  • Dense Pixel LCD delivers 200 dpi - This 22.2-inch LCD panel being sold by Viewsonic uses the same panel developed and marketed by IBM last year. The difference is that IBM charged nearly $20,000 for their its version; Viewsonic plans on selling theirs this one for around $8,000. That's still pretty pricey -- what makes this panel so special? Try 9.2 million pixels, for one thing. This 16x9 aspect ration panel has a native resolution of 3840x2400 pixels.
  • Quake 3: Adventure Mod -  Ever wonder what it would be like to explore the Kingdom of Adventure in a fully 3D environment? Well, maybe you'd be interested in Quake 3: Adventure. DownlK the Deathmatch map now!
  • Mozilla 1.0.1 Final -  Mozilla 1.0.1 (win32 download) contains over 650 bugfixes including approximately 25 security fixes, and over 130 stability and dataloss fixes. In addition to these important security and crash fixes, 1.0.1 has many more fixes for standards support, UI correctness and polish, performance, and site compatibility.
  • Trillian 0.74 and Trillian Pro 1.0 -  This program (download) can communicate through ICQ, AIM, MSN Messenger, IRC, Yahoo! Messenger. This new version features Trillian Bar Interface, DirectIM Upgrades, IRC Vulnerability Fix and more..
  • FlashFXP v2.0 RC3 Build 876 - FlashFXP is the most powerful and popular FTP & FXP Client for Microsoft Windows 9x/Me/NT/2000/XP on the market today. It is loaded with features for the power user, but has an intuitive user interface that takes only minutes to master. This updated RC3 fixed: FlashFXP failed to start on Win95 if HTML Help was not installed (hhctrl.ocx was not found.),  overflow in Hidden Nibbles game, Integer Overflow/Range in MD4/MD5 units and some Access Violation.
  • NVIDIA WDM 1.19 - ASUS have posted WDM driver 1.19. This file is required for VIVO and Personal Cinema functionality.
  • Nvidia Linux Drivers v1.0-3123 - Nvidia have released a new set of Linux Drivers Version: 1.0-3123! Dated: 9/10/2002.
