  • Next PlayStation plays out of the box - The next version of Sony's PlayStation console, which may be released in 2005, could run from other home appliances. Although the company remains tight-lipped about the timing of the next-generation console's debut, it is dropping some hints about a product that skips the need for hardware.  Kenichi Fukunaga, a spokesman for Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), the subsidiary that develops and makes the PlayStation, said that the ideal solution would be having an operating system installed in various home appliances that could run game programs. According to Reuters, the company has launched a four-year project, codenamed Cell, due for completion in spring 2005.

Requests for Google.com were blocked from Chinese servers at the start of the week and Altavista was locked out sometime last night.
