  • Xbox Live to target hackers? - Microsoft may backtrack on a pledge not to use its online gaming service to crack down on "mod chips"--chips that modify the Xbox console so it can run copied game discs and unlicensed software.
  • First Commercial Moon Mission Approved - TransOrbital, Inc. received permission from various government agencies last week to send a probe back to the Earth's little sister. That probe, dubbed Trailblazer, will orbit the moon for 90 days, filming portraits of Earth as it rises over the lunar horizon and mapping the moonscape in unprecedented detail - as small as one meter in diameter. "We're also looking to verify Apollo and other landing sites," said TransOrbital President Dennis Laurie. He said "verify" because there are still a few people out there who believe the Apollo program was a hoax. The last part of Trailblazer's mission will be to crash land on the lunar surface, taking "barnstorming" videos the whole way down. Trailblazer is expected to launch from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan within the next nine to 12 months.

  • Kung Fu Chaos Movie - Feeling aggressive? Fight like Bruce Lee without ever leaving the couch. This movie requires Windows Media Series 9.
  • MS patches bogus certificate hole on NT, XP - This vulnerability could enable an attacker to craft a digital certificate that, although bogus, would nevertheless be accepted as bona fide. Digital certificates are used for a variety of security-related purposes - for instance, users use them to confirm that web sites' identities; to verify who the sender of an email was; whether it's safe to run particular programs, and other purposes - and the ability to forge a seemingly valid certificate could allow a variety of attacks.
  • University to challenge copyright laws - Duke University's law school has received an anonymous $1 million gift to fund advocacy and research aimed at curtailing the recent expansion of copyright law.
  • MS puzzled by server attack spree - Microsoft releases further details of a rash of attacks on Windows 2000 servers that has so far stumped the software giant's research team.
  • Maxtor mines new DiamondMax drives - Maxtor refreshes its line of hard drives with storage up to 160GB at 7,200 revolutions per minute--to serve up more data, more quickly, for desktop PC users.
  • SONY DSC-FX77 with Bluetooth Connectivity - The DSC-FX77 uses Basic Image Protocol, a Bluetooth profile that works "peer to peer" between the camera and peripheral, helping to ensure fast, reliable and accurate data transfer," commented Akihiro Nishikawa, Director, Sony Digital Imaging Europe. This state-of-the-art wireless connectivity allows the camera to interface to various peripheral devices without cables. For example, a BIP compatible laptop computer can be used to store images, with a full 4 Mega picture taking around 47 seconds to transfer whilst a VGA resolution image takes just 1.5 seconds.
  • 3GHz Pentium 4 means pricier PCs - Motherboard makers are gearing up to support Intel's upcoming 3GHz Pentium 4, and the cost of their upgraded parts could mean a price hike for PC buyers. The Pentium 4 is expected to break the 3GHz barrier in late September or early October, but the faster chip will require a new power supply and other new technology. As a result, Taiwanese motherboard makers are planning to create separate versions of their main products in order to support the new chip, according to a report on Wednesday in Taiwanese industry journal DigiTimes. Besides putting inventory-control pressure on the motherboard makers, the duplicate lines will add $2 (about L1.28) in production costs for each board, according to the report. This could turn into higher wholesale motherboard prices and, ultimately, add to the cost of 3GHz Pentium 4 systems.
  • TwinMOS PC2700 DDR333 RAM Review  - Looking at the stick of memory got me excited. Rumors around the web are, DIMM's using Winbond BH-6 DRAM are killer in terms of overclockability. I've seen people on the web with this type of memory claiming 210 MHz and higher FSB's while maintaining the most aggressive memory timings! We recently looked at a stick of 256MB Kingston PC2700 DDR that used this DRAM and it allowed us to hit an amazing 205 MHz FSB on the Epox 8K3A+ so the hype and expectations were building! =)
  • Samsung SM-332 32x/10x/40x-12X Combo Drive Review - Samsung Electronics has been a hot competitor on the current computer electronics market. Its products have shown the innovative and digital life styles which encourages the public in purchasing their products. The key features other than the combo capabilities, Ultra DMA, JustLink Buffer Under Run Free technology, a whopping 8MB buffer memory, 1MB flash memory, and more are equipped into this high-performance Optical Disk Drive.
  • MSI Champion Edition G4Ti4600-TD Review - The new Champion Edition still has most of the other goodies that the original G4Ti4600-VTD does, that being DVI-Analog converter, S-Video cable and you still get an excellent software bundle! You get the driver CD (obviously), MSI DVD, AquaNox, Sacrifice, No One Lives Forever and a seven game demo CD's! WinProducer and WinCoder which were included in the original package are not included here because the Champion Edition doesn't have those video in capabilities.
  • Windows 2000/XP CD SlipStream Guide - DosFreak has updated his Windows 2000/XP CD SlipStream guide

  • DVD Region-Free 1.05 - You don't need to flash any firmware which is dangerous or unavailable. DVD Region-Free also disables region check for popular software-based DVD players such as PowerDVD, WinDVD and CinePlayer. Other features include Region-Free for RCE DVDs, Macrovision-Free, Operation-Free and run self at DVD players startup automatically.
