- Playstation 3 chip nears completion - Cell, a
radical new processor designed by IBM, Sony and Toshiba and dubbed a 'supercomputer on
a chip', could enter production in 2004.
- Symantec warns of firewall flaw - Researchers have discovered a flaw in Symantec's
Raptor firewall (see neworder.box.sk exploit) that could allow attackers to hijack
legitimate communications with a protected system.
- Israeli teenagers charged with Goner virus outbreak - Five
Israeli teenagers
have been charged with creating and spreading the W32/Goner-A virus, which spread
rapidly on the Internet after its release in December last year.
- Startup puts Bluetooth transceiver into Game Boy cartridge - A
small startup here has tucked a Bluetooth RF transceiver and protocol-translation FPGA
into a cartridge format compatible with the Nintendo Game Boy Color and Advance platforms.
X-Tra Fun Inc.'s intent is not just to provide a Bluetooth link between gamers in one
room, but to turn
the Game Boy platform into a de facto PDA. The handheld game device would be able to
synchronize with a Bluetooth-enabled PC, send and receive e-mail, send text messages to a
cell phone and, eventually, receive streaming video at several tens of frames per second.
- Bantam USA BA350 MP3 Player - After not doing to swell with
their BA250 series Mp3 player, Bantam decided to go back to the drawing board and
re-develop their thoughts, and have came up with what they call the BA350 series
Mp3 player, which at a glace looks simply amazing! I've tested and used this thing
non-stop since I received the product from Bantam, now lets see if Bantam is going to take
control of the industry or if they they are going to sink like so many of the other
companies out there...
- HAMMER Rated 3000+ for Xmas? - A post coming from brokersjack from AMD Yahoo! board
suggest that Dresden, a.k.a. Fab 30, is already mass producing a 3000+ rated clawhammer for release to public
before Christmas. The post also states a supposed name of Athlon ST for the said chip.

- Windows Media Player 9 Preview - When first opening the
software, WMP9 looks no different from its predecessor, WMP8 (aka. WMP for
Windows XP); Aesthetic changes are kept to a minimal. However, WMP9 still brings along
with it a host of new features; a new streaming server, new audio and video compression, a
new encoder, and a new software development kit, all of which will contribute to what
Microsoft claims as "a dramatically improved playback experience and unparalleled
audio-visual quality."
- RADEON 9700 Real-Time Demos - These demos all
require DirectX 9 in order to run. Animusic: a
real-time version of "Pipe Dream" from Animusic's DVD entited ANIMUSIC: A
Computer Animation Video Album (http://www.animusic.com). This was shown in
offline-rendered form in the Electronic Theatre at Siggraph 2001. Now rendered in
real-time on the Radeon 9700 / Bear: a realistic
demonstration of fur-rendering in a typical application. This demo shows a number of
techniques for rendering fur not seen before - including combing, natural curling
per-strand coloring and per-pixel anisotropic lighting. These techniques will be described
in more detail in a technical sketch at Siggraph 2002.
