  • Summer job: Walking video game - Work officially begins this weekend as Nintendo Street Team members hit malls, concerts and other events in six cities across the country. Their mission: To drum up interest in the latest releases from the Redmond-based video game developer.
  • EU threatens broadband showdown - The European Union (EU) may decide to regulate the broadband market to speed rollout and bring down charges, after claims that newcomers are being blocked from entering the market by entrenched telcos. Competition Commissioner Mario Monti said in a statement that progress on telecoms deregulation in Europe remains "extremely disappointing".
  • Creative Labs set to introduce its own graphics cards for gamers - According to The Inquirer, Creative Labs is set to introduce its own gaming boards before the end of this year. The boards will use 3DLabs technology, which Creative snapped up earlier this year. 3D Labs recently announced its professional rendering boards and Creative will use this technology as a reference for its gaming parts, we learn.
  • Toshiba releases monster notebook - Weighing in at 9.6 pounds, the new Toshiba Satellite 1955-S801 notebook sports a 2.2GHz Pentium 4 desktop processor from Intel and a huge 16-inch display.
  • Creative Sound Blaster Extigy review - While the Audigy is Creative's latest PCI Soundcard, Extigy is their first external Soundcard. Though seemingly having much in common feature wise with the Audigy, the Extigy is NOT an external Audigy and this review will cover why not as well as what it is & how they differ. The Extigy also features some great stand-alone capabilities, not just the fact that thanks to a USB interface it can just as be easily used with a laptops or as a Dolby Digital decoder for your DVD Player, Xbox or whatever
  • ATi R250 (Radeon 8500 MAXX)  - This thread in TweakTown forums brings some information about the new Radeon 8500 MAXX from ATi. July 17th is still the date when ATI's RV250 is set to be officially introduced to the world.
  • Nvidia NV30 & NV40 Details - I've received some information regarding the NV30, NV31 and some insight of the NV40 Nvidia is working on. First off though, the NV30 is AGP 8X and it's still a go with 900MHz DDR memory. Also what is now known is that the NV30 is multi chip capable. The number of chips is an odd number. That's all I can say without giving out the exact number. I'll say this though. It's under 8. With regards to FSAA performance the NV30 has a zero (0) performance cost using 4X FSAA. Specifications have been discussed and the NV30 is able to churn out 16 textures/pixel per pass. The NV30 also uses a 4-1 colour compression technique. Nvidia has explained to us/me that the performance we all will see with the NV30 is about double the performance of the Xbox/GF Ti4600. Another feature that is not known to the public is the use of IEE 1394 or known as Firewire will be on NV30 video cards. (source: 3DChipset).
  • GPU Shootout with Unreal Tournament 2003 Part II: CPU Scaling - One week ago AnandTech put a total of 19 different GPUs through the toughest tests they’ve encountered in their labs: non-stop benchmarking using Unreal Tournament 2003.  Using a couple of levels of UT2003 they were able to get an idea for the performance levels these GPUs would enjoy when the forthcoming game is released. Today they bring you an update to our 19-way GPU shootout with a focus entirely on how these GPUs scale with CPU clock speed.
  • Windows 2000 SP3 Delayed - Microsoft has delayed the third service pack for Windows 2000--Service Pack 3 (SP3)-for an indefinite period of time, according to internal documents I viewed over the weekend. Win2K was originally due July 17, but Microsoft recently discovered several major bugs in its Microsoft Installer (MSI) 2.0 code, which was to have been bundled with the update. So now the company will remove MS 2.0 from SP3 and include the older version, MSI 1.1, instead, unless feedback from its beta testers and partners indicates that MSI 2.0 must be included. This indecision, obviously, will adversely affect the release schedule for SP3.
  • AVI2VCD v1.4.1 Final (WinAll) - Avi2vcd can create all 3 valid VideoCD streams: FILM (23.976 fps), PAL (25 fps), and NTSC (29.97 fps). The horizontal resolution must be 768 pixels or less, the vertical resolution must be 576 pixels or less. Audio need not even be present, and if it is, can be stereo or mono, 8 or 16 bit, and any of the following sample rates: 8, 11.025, 12, 16, 22.05, 24, 32, 44.1 or 48 KHz.
  • Easydivx v0.82 - Freeware Easydivx is a all in one rippack or graphical user interface program for vStrip, MPEG2AVI, AC3DEC Normalize, VirtualDub and MicroDVD menu.
  • Matrox Millennium G200/G400/G450/G550 Drivers XP v5.84.023 - Matrox hasreleased a new BETA drivers for their Millennium cards - download.
  • HighPoint Drivers v2.33  - HighPoint Tech have released the latest HighPoint Drivers version 2.33 (Win9X/ME / Win2K/XP / Win NT4).
  • ASUS PCProbe 2.17.01 - Asus PCProbe is a convenient utility to monitor the computer's vital components: fan rotations, voltages and temperatures.
  • ATI Radeon 6118 Driver (Windows XP) - A new ATi Radeon driver for Windows XP has been leaked.

the new matrox is a joke toshiba putting in another desktop cpu is another joke . you would think the learned from their former mistakes. but no that desktop cpu on a notebook is gonna get hot and gonna prefrom like crap . they had the heat issue b4 and yet they go got desktop cpu's just for the low price . intel does not even provide support on it . ie your 2.2 p4 burns down u gotta depend on thosiba for warranty they only give ya one year if your mobile p4 burns up after 13 months u can knock at intels door and they replace it no problem . http://www.thehelper.net
