- Nasty Internet Worm Targets German Anti-Trojan Users - A destructive new
mass-mailing Internet worm has been launched into the wild in the form of a Trojan
horse targeting the security-conscious. The worm, which has been named "Yarner"
by virus researchers, apparently got its start in a fraudulent e-mail sent sometime Monday
to fans of Trojaner-Info.de, a German site specializing in information about malicious
code.
- Next-gen DVD standard agreed - Manufacturers have agreed a
standard for the next generation of DVDs, which will be capable of holding more
information than existing discs. The Blu-ray disc, so called because it works with a blue
laser that operates at a higher frequency than current technology, can store up to 13
hours of film, compared to the a limit of around 133 minutes for single-sided,
single-layer discs.
- WD flogs external 120GB FireWire HDD - Western Digital is coming
to market with a 120GB external Firewire hard drive (HDD) for PC and Mac. The beast
incorporates a 7,200RPM platter-spinning Caviar HDD and carries a list price of $349. If
you want to go large, you can stack systems together in a daisy chain.
- AltaVista puts stop on free e-mail - As part of a cost-cutting
drive, the Internet search company plans to ax its free Web-based e-mail service--and it won't be keeping
the archives open.
- DVD+RW Drive Review - Dan's Data checked out AOpen's RW5120A DVD+RW drive,
which uses the most recent of the do-it-yourself DVD formats. The AOpen drive's fast, and
not too expensive, and yes, you _can_ copy DVDs with it. That's not really its strong
point, though.

od the ASUS V8460 GeForce4 Ti4600 video card.
- NTFS chkdsk.exe XP Patch - This
update resolves an issue that prevents chkdsk.exe from running at system boot. The
issue can occur on systems with an IDE drive and is discussed in Microsoft Knowledge Base
(KB) Article Q315403.
- Visio Professional 2002 SR1 - Microsoft Visior Professional 2002
Service
Release 1 (SR-1) Update is a planned service release providing the latest product
updates to Visio Professional 2002. Updates include Microsoft SharePointT Portal Server
integration, Hebrew composition support, and ClearTyper control, as well as several
security fixes.
- PowerStrip 3.14 Build 254 - PowerStrip provides

- CDRWIN v4.0A Beta - Multi-Recorder support is the first new
feature to be added to version 4.0A. Now you can record on a maximum of 32 recorders
simultaneously (depending on system speed). At this time, only MMC compliant drives are
supported (almost all recorders made in the last two years are MMC compliant). Only SCSI
based recorders have been tested so far, but many IDE recorders should work as well.
