  • Nasty Internet Worm Targets German Anti-Trojan Users - A destructive new mass-mailing Internet worm has been launched into the wild in the form of a Trojan horse targeting the security-conscious. The worm, which has been named "Yarner" by virus researchers, apparently got its start in a fraudulent e-mail sent sometime Monday to fans of Trojaner-Info.de, a German site specializing in information about malicious code.
  • Next-gen DVD standard agreed - Manufacturers have agreed a standard for the next generation of DVDs, which will be capable of holding more information than existing discs. The Blu-ray disc, so called because it works with a blue laser that operates at a higher frequency than current technology, can store up to 13 hours of film, compared to the a limit of around 133 minutes for single-sided, single-layer discs.
  • WD flogs external 120GB FireWire HDD - Western Digital is coming to market with a 120GB external Firewire hard drive (HDD) for PC and Mac. The beast incorporates a 7,200RPM platter-spinning Caviar HDD and carries a list price of $349. If you want to go large, you can stack systems together in a daisy chain.
  • AltaVista puts stop on free e-mail - As part of a cost-cutting drive, the Internet search company plans to ax its free Web-based e-mail service--and it won't be keeping the archives open.
  • DVD+RW Drive Review - Dan's Data checked out AOpen's RW5120A DVD+RW drive, which uses the most recent of the do-it-yourself DVD formats. The AOpen drive's fast, and not too expensive, and yes, you _can_ copy DVDs with it. That's not really its strong point, though.
  • ASUS V8460 GeForce4 Ti4600 Review - T-Break has posted a review od the ASUS V8460 GeForce4 Ti4600 video card.
  • NTFS chkdsk.exe XP Patch - This update resolves an issue that prevents chkdsk.exe from running at system boot. The issue can occur on systems with an IDE drive and is discussed in Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) Article Q315403.
  • Visio Professional 2002 SR1 - Microsoft Visior Professional 2002 Service Release 1 (SR-1) Update is a planned service release providing the latest product updates to Visio Professional 2002. Updates include Microsoft SharePointT Portal Server integration, Hebrew composition support, and ClearTyper control, as well as several security fixes.
  • PowerStrip 3.14 Build 254 - PowerStrip provides advanced, multi-monitor, programmable hardware support to a wide range of graphics cards - from the venerable Matrox Millennium I to the latest Radeon 8500DV and GeForce3 Ti500.
  • CDRWIN v4.0A Beta - Multi-Recorder support is the first new feature to be added to version 4.0A. Now you can record on a maximum of 32 recorders simultaneously (depending on system speed). At this time, only MMC compliant drives are supported (almost all recorders made in the last two years are MMC compliant). Only SCSI based recorders have been tested so far, but many IDE recorders should work as well. Download this beta here.
  • FlashFXP Beta 1.4.3 Build 833 - FlashFXP is a powerful and popular FTP & FXP Client for Windows.
  • Nvidia GeForce4 Bios - Gainward have released new Nvidia GeForce4 Bios files: Geforce4 MX420, Geforce4 MX440, Geforce4 MX460, Geforce4 TI4400, Geforce4 TI4600.
  • New ATI Radeon Official Win98/ME Driver - This is a fully released and supported display driver, which supports Windows ME, Windows 98 and Windows 98 SE. DirectX 8.1 and OpenGL support are included. According to the release notes there are no issues with this driver. Download recommended Driver - 4.13.9009!
