- Software Bug May Cause Missile Errors - U.S. Central Command said
that the U.S. military is investigating
the possibility that a software problem in the Patriot missile defense
system may be responsible for targeting two friendly aircraft, but that other
scenarios could just as likely be responsible for the mishaps. On
Sunday, a Patriot missile battery on the Kuwait border accidentally shot down
a British Royal Air Force (RAF) Tornado GR-4 aircraft that was returning from
a mission over Iraq. Two British pilots were killed in the incident.
Then on Monday a U.S. F-16 fighter jet fired at and destroyed a Patriot
battery's radar dish after the pilot said the Patriot had 'locked on' to the
plane.
- NT4.0 too flawed to fix - Although a denial of service risk exists
in an "important"
security vulnerability, publicized yesterday affecting NT 4.0,
Redmond tells users not to expect a patch for that operating system anytime
soon. Windows 2000 and XP users do have access to a fix, designed to
address a flaw involving Endpoint Mapper, but the best on offer for Win NT
users is advice to shelter vulnerable servers behind a firewall.

- BIT NF7 VDD Mod -
The Abit NF7-S
rev. 1.2 comes with higher adjustable chipset voltage to help overclockers
hit greater FSBs. However, the max of 1.7v is a real let down for high FSB
seekers. Thus many resort to soldering a resistor on the pin of an IC chip to
help increase chipset (VDD) voltage. However, for those with a phobia of
soldering, here's an easy way out. All you need is a pencil and a multimeter.
