- Microsoft told to drop 'misleading' ad - Microsoft claimed in
an advertisement that
its software is so secure, it will make hackers extinct. As it turned out,
it was the ad which bit the dust. This controversial advertisement,
which was published in the November issue of Time magazine and tech digest
ITWeb Brainstorm, featured three extinct animals--a dodo, a woolly mammoth and
a saber-tooth tiger--as well as a caricature of a hacker.
- Dell, IBM Ship Competing Laser Printers - Dell this week makes its
first venture into the printer market,
releasing a line of printers developed with Lexmark and going up against
some established players. Among the new business printers, its new S2500n
workgroup laser runs smack up against IBM's very similar Infoprint 1222dn.
Both are based on Lexmark's T420d and have identical control panels and
produce 600-dpi resolution. Their paper-handling capabilities are similar, and
both use some Lexmark software.

Make sure you have AMD Athlon XP Thoroughbred processor with B0 core
stepping. To determine it, check the CPU ID of your chip with appropriate
software, such as WCPUID by H. Oda. If the CPU ID is 681, then you have the
Athlon XP processor based on the Thoroughbred B0 core. If it is not, it means
you have something else. The information below seems to be correct only for
AMD Athlon XP Thoroughbred processors with B0 core stepping. Note that
microprocessors based on Palomino core or Thoroughbred A0 core are rather poor
for overclocking.

CladDVD XP is a "DVD
Ripper", meaning it decrypts the encrypted VOB files off the DVD and saves
them to your hard drive. The files can be ripped in a standard way preserving
the original content along with the IFO, useful when you use or need to use a
3rd party application to process the VOB files.

Version 1.15 of
the File Writer Plug-In for Nullsoft's WinAmp is released. At this moment
it will let you specify a directory to write files in, it will let you choose
between the raw, ape, mp3, ogg and wave file formats and it supports three
different modes for creating a filename, just title simply uses the title as a
filename, expanded title uses the title but expands some variables just like
with the title option of the LineIn plugin, the expandable string option
enables you to specify an expandable string which is used to create the
filename (usefull with a setting like: %ut - on %dl), you have to use at least
%ut (unexpanded title), %et (expanded title) or %p# with that option, %p#
expands to the playlist position (padded with zeroes upto # digits).
- NFR v0.6 - NFR
v0.6 has been released, featuring bug-fixes, enhancements and more. NFR
now has new name NVIDIA File Remover > Nasty File Remover (for copyright
reasons etc). NFR can remove NVIDIA driver files from users system folder
(non-recursive), it supports all known windows versions and detonator
versions.
