- First Amiga games for Windows devices to ship next week -
Amiga's Microsoft relationship has borne near-instant fruit; the first Amiga Anywhere
Entertainment Pack for CE, CE.NET, PocketPC and PocketPC 2002 is due to ship from
Monday, April 15th. The pack comes with the Amiga Anywhere Content Engine, which
allows Amiga Anywhere applications to run on Windows devices, plus four games, Planet Zed
and Convex from ZeoNeo and Gobbler and Solitaire from Pulsar. Average size for Amiga
Anywhere applications, according to Amiga Inc president and CEO Bill McEwen, is 300k.
- Ashcroft Calls For Web-Based Terrorist Data System - U.S.
Attorney General John Ashcroft on Thursday called on various law enforcement agencies
within the Justice Department to construct a Web-based system for sharing terrorist data with state
officials. Ashcroft directed the deputy attorney general to coordinate the building of a
secure but unclassified Web-based system that would enable local, state and federal users
to post, retrieve and read documents and photos, as well as send and receive secure
e-mail.
- Another Computing Platform Gets Its First Virus - SAPvir, the
first virus to
infect programs and reports used by the high-end SAP R/3 business information system,
was posted to an online virus library this week.
- Earth's Magnetic Pole is Flipping Sides - Scientists are getting
some data that indicates that all of that may change in the next millennia or two. The Earth's
magnetic poles are showing signs they may be preparing to flip. You read that
correctly-flip, switch, swap, and exchange polarities. "North" would become
"South", "East" would in reality actually be "West", and
those of us already directionally-impaired would have to simply give up and just stay at
home all the time, because we wouldn't be able to find our way anywhere.
- Wi-Fi "lite" from Microsoft - Setting up a network is
relatively inexpensive, costing $500 to $1,000 for a system that allows wireless access in
a 300-foot radius. The radio generally costs between $150 and $250. These networks are already in about 1.4
million U.S. homes and are catching on in restaurants, hotels, airports, workplaces
and conference centers. By 2005, analysts believe, Wi-Fi will be used in about 27 million
homes and 28 million offices.

- NVIDIA's GF4 Ti4200 Vs. Radeon 8500LEs - Today we'll be taking a
look at
three such products, the Apollo Graphics Devil Monster II Radeon 8500 LE, the ATi Radeon
8500 LE and an NVIDIA GeForce 4 Ti 4200. All three of these products offer features
like pixel and vertex shaders or have dual monitor support, but they are clocked lower

- Google API's - Google have released the first beta of their Web APIs
package. Used in conjunction with a free license key this SOAP based web service allows
developers to execute up to 1000 automated queries a day, but is currently available for
non-commercial use only. The download comes with Java and .NET code examples and includes
a WSDL description for use with other SOAP supporting languages.
