- Clock's ticking on Klez worm time bomb - A new version of an old
worm is set to trigger its destructive payload on March 6.
Klez.E (w32.Klez.E@mm) is sometimes called the Twin Virus because the worm is used to
spread an upgraded version of the ElKern virus (w32.elkern.b). The new version can now
infect Windows 98, Me, 2000, and XP, attempting to corrupt files on these systems without
changing their sizes.
- CIA details found on Google - Security experts demonstrated today just how
effectively determined attackers can use freely and openly available information on the
internet to gather intelligence about a target organisation. Without using port scans or
direct probes of the CIA network, and employing methodologies entirely within the
boundaries of UK and US law, Matta was able to "build a clear network map" of
the CIA's infrastructure. 'Whois' and DNS requests identified the CIA's global points of
presence and listed the domain names and network blocks used by the organisation, which
consisted of the CIA.gov, UCIA.gov and ODCI.gov hosts.
- New RADIUS vulns exposed - Numerous holes in the ubiquitous
RADIUS (remote authentication dial-in user service) protocol can be exploited
with results including denial of service and running arbitrary code on the target device,
a Russian security researcher has demonstrated. The risk of the DoS attack is considerably
greater, and can be achieved two ways. 3APA3A has a simple tool for testing RADIUS
vulnerabilities available
here.
- New Drug Stops Liver Damage from Alcohol - Now called Ceplene, the recycled drug
has been shown to reverse liver damage in rats injected with ethanol. Usually,
untreated rats injected with ethanol would exhibit symptoms related to alcohol abuse. The
ones who received Ceplene had their damage "completely reversed".
- eVGAs GeForce4 MX 440 Review - The GeForce4 MX 440
is powered by Nvidia's newest GeForce4 graphics core. However, appearances can be
deceiving as with the GeForce4 MX. One should think of this in terms of the GeForce2 MX.
The original GeForce2 MX was essentially a GeForce2 core clocked slower and minus two
rendering pipelines. Taking the same concept, the GeForce4 is basically a twin-pipelined,
lite version of a GeForce3/4 hybrid. Today, with the support of eVGA, Hardware Pub will
demonstrate eVGA's GeForce4 MX 440 against the contemporary and similarly priced GeForce3
Ti200 and ATi Radeon 7500 video cards.
- Gainward GeForce4 Ti4600 Review - T-Break has posted a review
of Gainward's GeForce 4 Ti4600 graphics card and compared it to the ASUS GF4 Ti4600.
- Western Digital WD1200JB With 8 MB Cache Review - Western
Digital makes the headlines on a regular basis - in a positive way. Once the company
began focusing on high-end IDEs around the end of 1999, it wasn't long until we saw the
results: WD was the first manufacturer to offer an IDE drive with 100 GB and 7,200 rpm.
Some weeks later, a 120 GB version followed. To increase the performance of these drives
even further, the top models (-JB, instead of -BB) are
equipped with 8 MB rather than 2 MB cache memory. Will this be enough to compete with
the fastest SCSI drives as well?
- ADS USB 2.0 Drive Kit Review - While most companies offer full
hard drive packages, ADS opted to allow users to expand their own storage devices to USB
2.0 with their USB 2.0 Drive Kit.
- Audiovox DVD-1500 Portable DVD Player Review - Monster Hardware
has written a review
of the Audiovox DVD-1500 Portable DVD Player.
- Adobe Premiere beta update 6.02 - The Adobe Premiere 6.02 update
provides fixes to known issues in Premiere. Please note that this update is still in beta.
- HyperSnap-DX v4.31.01 - HyperSnap-DX 4
is a screen capture and image editing tool for MS Windows. It captures screens from
standard desktop programs and even those hard-to-grab DirectX, Direct3D, 3Dfx Voodoo and
Glide mode games.
- Opera Browser 6.02 Build 1052 - Opera Software have released new
betaversion of Opera 6.02 build 1052.
- Customizer XP 1.7.8 Beta 2 - Customizer XP is an
integrated suite of programs that can help you to tweak your Windows 2000/XP to its
fullest potential performance or just keep it running like new. It offers a wide range
possibility to customize and optimize your Windows program.
- DriverManager 1.02 - DriverManager (freeware) is a tool designed to allow System
Administrators, Power Users and Driver Developers an easy means to view, modify or remove
drivers and their information on Windows NT 4, Windows 2000 and Windows XP platforms.
- 2xExplorer v1.3.1.10 - This freeware combines the user-friendliness of the latter with the
increased efficiency and advanced features of good-old dual-pane file managers like Norton
Commander. It is a package that will appeal to the power user, yet its similarity with
Explorer will ensure that less experienced users will not be driven away either.
- ATIVX player - This player is not like the others players, because it's the first
player capable to extend itself the desktop when you start it and cancel this extension
when you close it! This function is very useful when you have a dual head card like Radeon
VE / 7500 / 8500, because you have the video only on the second screen (the tv or the
second monitor). However, if you have a mono head card like Radeon 7200 / ViVo / AIW, it
works on the first monitor.

people.
