- Linux flaw opens doors in firewalls - A vulnerability that
affects certain versions of the Linux kernel could let hackers
into networks protected by Netfilter firewall software.
- Windows XP SP1 in Late 2002 - Microsoft will deliver
the
first Windows XP service pack in late 2002, some months later than originally planned.
But Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) will consist of more than just bug fixes: The company
tells me that it will contain new Mira and Freestyle technology, a number of changes
required by its proposed settlement with the US Department of Justice, and any critical
updates that have been issued since XP shipped last Fall.
- US hackers could face life sentences - US House judiciary
subcommittee on crime voted unanimously to amend the Cyber Security Enhancement Act (CSEA)
to come down harder on hackers. Currently the CSEA states that only those who attempt
"to cause death or serious bodily injury" by electronic means are punishable by life
imprisonment.
- Britney virus makes slave of PCs - Security experts have warned
that an evil virus is
masquerading as pictures of pop princess Britney Spears. Arriving as a Visual Basic Script
(VBS) called 'Britney.chm', once executed the malicious file even asks users to
"Enable ActiveX to see Britny (sic) Pictures". A machine that has ActiveX
running will promptly be infected and the message will be sent on to all addresses in the
Outlook address book. The worm is also capable of distributing itself via Internet Relay
Chat (IRC).
- Intel launches 'Radio Free Intel' - During the Intel Developer
Forum (IDF) here today, Intel Corp. announced
a new effort to enable its long-awaited "connected PC" vision by deploying its
vast R&D resources into what the company calls "Radio
Free Intel." Intel's "Radio Free Intel" concept is not geared to
provide propaganda to third world countries over the radio waves, but rather it describes
the company's new, ambitious R&D efforts into the radio-frequency (RF),
software-defined radio, and related wireless sectors.
- AVC Tundra - copper cooler Review - AVC is largely unknown in
Germany, in Asia and America the company plays
already since years a role on the Retail Markt. Now AVC would like to conquer
the European market. AVC stands for Asian Vital Components.
- Hercules Titanium Video Cards Review - Hercules has always
managed to manufacture state of the art and highly tweakable
(overclockable) gaming cards based on several popular GPUs. But these days it's very
hard to be original and the line between success and failure is very thin. For example ...
If you have to choose one out of two equally priced GF3 Ti200 video cards, which one would
you pick? The most tweakable one or the one that doesn't overclock that well? I would say
the first ;)
- Western Digital 1200JB HDD Review - X-bit labs has posted a
review of Western
Digital 1200JB HDD. This Special Edition product boasts an 8MB cache-buffer, which
allows it to compete on equal terms not only with the fastest IDE hard drives, but also
with SCSI drives featuring 7,200rpm (and even higher) spindle rotation speed. Find out
more about this revolution!
- Creative GeForce 4 MX440 Video Card Review - OC Prices has
posted a review of the Creative GeForce 4 MX440 video card, Priced at
£119 ($165) including tax, this card is very affordable, yet maintains blistering
performance thanks to 64MB of DDR ram running at 200MHz (400MHz DDR) and core clock of
270MHz (remember that's 20MHz quicker than the GeForce 3 Ti-500).
- VIA P4PA Socket 478 Motherboard Review - The P4PA
supports existing 400MHz based Pentium 4 processors, and goes an extra step further by
including support for the up and coming 533MHz Pentium 4 processor. This is great for
peace of mind in terms of upgradeability.
- FIC Radeon 8500 Review - What is included in the package for
$250 CDN? Well along with the video card, there is a DVI to analog converter, an S-Video
cable, user manual and a driver CD. One thing to remember, the FIC version,
while not exactly identical to the ATI version in terms of core/memory timings, is about
$150 CDN lower then the Retail ATI Radeon 8500 so it can be quite a good deal.
- NVIDIA GeForce (1/2/3/4) videocard tweaking - This guide
will take you through using one such utility to configure your NVIDIA Graphics card as
well as other troubleshooting/BIOS information to get it all running stably.

GeForce 3 Ti200, GeForce 4 MX 420/440/460, GeForce 4 Ti 4400/4600. ALso you can check a comparison between v27.42, 27.50, 27.51 & 27.70.
