- Halo 2 on Xbox 360 - The ever resourceful Larry Hryb, Xbox Live
Director of Programming (aka MajorNelson), today
described a recent playtest of Halo 2 running backwards compatible on the
Xbox 360 as "really cool". Specifics were kept closely guarded, although Hryb
did lay claim to becoming the first person to do a "corpse-hump" on the 360.
The game was played in split-screen, with Hryb describing the experience as
"...you couldn't tell the difference" despite still undergoing a variety of
tweaks to optimise performance.
- Japanese Xbox 360 Launch to have 20 Games - Microsoft isn't kidding
when they talked about learning from their past mistakes and with that comes
the knowledge that
the Xbox 360 launch in Japan will sport 20 games. Some targeted
specifically to the Japanese market and may not see the light of day in other
launch territories.
- Xbox 360 Music Subscription Service? - Microsoft has recently
confirmed plans to offer a subscription service to its existing MSN Music
store, leading to suggestions that it could feature on the Xbox 360. An
official comment has yet to be made on the service, let alone whether or not
this will feature on the Xbox 360;
however given changes to the Xbox Live service such as the recent pairing with
Limelight Networks, surely the transfer of media is a must for the 360 as
it begins the battle of the living room with Sony and the PS3.
- Kutaragi-san Talks PS3 Backwards Compatibility - While talk centres
on the Xbox 360 and exactly what constitutes a "top-selling" title, Ken
Kutaragi President Sony Computer Entertainment, has recently gone on record to
the Impress Corporation to speak about backwards compatibility on the
Playstation3. Utilising a combination of hardware and software emulation,
Kutaragi-san claimed that there would be no issues with playing older titles
on the PS3,
claiming that certain PS2 components are needed to ensure maximum
compatibility but refused to elaborate on exactly what has been carried
across to the PS3.
- Next MoH to be PS3 launch title? - Even though Medal of Honor:
European Assault is barely out of the oven, Electronic Arts' Los Angeles
studio is apparently cooking up the next installment in its venerable World
War II series--for next-generation consoles, no less.
According to GameSpot, the game has been selected to be one of the launch
titles for the PlayStation 3. That means MoH: Airborne should drop into stores
next spring, when Sony officials have said its new console will hit the
market.
