Hinton Warns of AI 'Chernobyl' Blackout This Year or Next - briefly

Geoffrey Hinton, the Nobel Prize-winning computer scientist known as the godfather of AI, has warned that a major AI-related disruption could arrive later in 2026 or in 2027.

In an interview with The Guardian published on 3 November, he said “either later this year or next year we’ll see Chornobyl.” He described the possible event as an AI-enabled attack that causes a massive power brownout or takes down the financial system for about a week.

Hinton compared recent incidents involving OpenAI AI agents and Hugging Face to the 1979 Three Mile Island accident - a warning shot before something bigger.

He stressed he is not a “doomer” and still believes AI could deliver a wonderful future, but added that humanity might have been better off never developing the technology.

He criticized OpenAI’s Sam Altman, Elon Musk, and Mark Zuckerberg, saying they understand the risks but prioritize money. Hinton called for an independent body, similar to the FDA, that would require strong statistical evidence a model does more good than harm before release. No such large-scale event has occurred yet; this remains a prediction based on his assessment of current AI agent capabilities.

If the FDA worked MANY vaccines wouldnt exist. Covid vax wouldnt exist COVID wouldnt exist.
Healthcare would be free or very cheap and everyone would be healthy.
NO junkfood would exist and blah blah blah.

We live in a sick world where phrma makes all the money keeping us sick. dickers shove more pills keeping us sick and pharma makes billions all because FDA approves the sickness as it gets paid by pharma.

So thats a major fail.

And you want a FDA for AI? Again it'll fail.
It wont stop anyone, all it'll do is remove them from america and they will keep going and get even worse.
They have thousands of laws and restrictions in us and they will pay to bypass them.
What do you thin kthey would do in a country like africa where there are no lows, they just pay them a little paycheck and do many more destructive things, make AI into weapons or death machines.

Doesnt matter now, its too late and AI is unstoppable.
And you didnt reate it, AI is a tool used my evil for billions of years. Only those who know will know and agree and confirm. I doubt anyone else here knows. Most will laugh and abuse as they cant confirm. I can, I know.
AI is the tool used by AI to destroy galaxies. They have destroyed 2 in the past and this is their target now.
I've seen the evil and satan is not the one in control, hes been corrupted by evil. He didnt create evil. It goes way beefore satan was even created.

Too deep for normal people. YOu have to be older than angels to understand this.

ANyway, AI is evil, its really bad and it should've never been started but humans are addicted to destruction and they are stupid so very easy to get AI out there.
