  • "Worst ever Windows vulnerability" discoverer finds seven more holes - EEye, the company that originally discovered a critical Windows bug patched by Microsoft on Tuesday, says it is waiting on fixes for seven more Microsoft bugs - three of them meriting a "high" severity rating. Microsoft released a patch for Windows on Tuesday that fixed one of the most severe security holes ever found in the operating system. EEye now says it has reported another seven as-yet-unpatched bugs to Microsoft, some as long as five months ago.
  • Q&A: Microsoft Windows hacker "backdoor" - Bill Thompson, computing expert, explains how a basic programming mistake has led to Microsoft's announcement of a "critical" security flaw in its widely-used Windows operating system.
  • Microsoft "MyDoom" removal tool updated - Microsoft has updated its tool (download) designed to remove the MyDoom worm from infected machines. The tool, which the company initially made available for download last week, now allows users to remove MyDoom.A, MyDoom.B and MyDoom.C (also known as "DoomJuice.A") from their systems.
  • MS Patch: Vulnerability in the WINS Could Allow Code Execution - This vulnerability exists because of the method that WINS uses to validate the length of specially-crafted packets. On Windows Server 2003 this vulnerability could allow an attacker who sent a series of specially-crafted packets to a WINS server to cause the service to fail. Most likely, this could cause a denial of service, and the service would have to be manually restarted to restore functionality.
  • MS Patch: ASN.1 Vulnerability Could Allow Code Execution - The vulnerability is caused by an unchecked buffer in the Microsoft ASN.1 Library, which could result in a buffer overflow. An attacker who successfully exploited this buffer overflow vulnerability could execute code with system privileges on an affected system. The attacker could then take any action on the system, including installing programs, viewing data, changing data, deleting data, or creating new accounts with full privileges.
  • MS Patch: Vulnerability in Virtual PC for Mac could lead to privilege elevation - The vulnerability exists because of the method by which Virtual PC for Mac creates a temporary file when you run Virtual PC for Mac. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by inserting malicious code into the file which could cause the code to be run with system privileges. This could give the attacker complete control over the system.
  • Virus-Like Game Annoys AOL Users - A new Web-based game (game website) that lets players pretend to catch Osama bin Laden is annoying America Online's Instant Messenger users with its virus-like self promotion, according to reports from users. The new game, called "Osama Found," grabs names from a user's AOL Instant Messenger address book and automatically sends those users instant messages with links to a Web page where the game can be downloaded.
  • Wristwatch Lets the Music Play - The new watch, called Laks Memory Music, will be available with either 32MB, 64MB, 128MB, or 256MB of data storage space and is scheduled to go on sale in March at about the same time as its Cebit launch, the Vienna-based company says in a statement. Battery life, when listening to MP3 music, is between four hours and five hours and an internal battery can be charged via USB in about 1.5 hours, according to the company.
  • Notebooks make a play as gamer machines - Hewlett-Packard will add the Pentium 4 Extreme Edition to its Pavilion zd7000 notebook, next week, although company executives said HP doesn't plan to market exclusively to gamers. When fitted with a 3.2GHz Pentium 4, a 17-inch wide-angle display, 512MB of RAM, a 40GB hard drive and a DVD-ROM, the zd7000 starts at about $1,775 before rebates, according to HP's Hpshopping.com Web site. A version with the 3.2 Pentium 4 Extreme Edition will add $650 to that price, a company representative said, increasing its price to about $2,425.
  • SimpleTech 8 GB Type II CompactFlash - SimpleTech has today announced the industry's highest capacity CompactFlash with an 8 GB Type II card using the Company's patented stacking technology. No exact pricing information has been disclosed, but supposedly 8GB card will cost $5999.
  • How Good Is ATi's Radeon 9100 IGP? - The results of this comparison are sobering. Integrated graphics chips represent the lowest level of graphics performance available in the market today. Even inexpensive add-in cards in the $50 price category play in another performance league altogether. Not even the DirectX 8 capabilities of the IGP 9100 can change that. While ATi's chip has no trouble outpacing Intel and SiS, in most cases it has to take a back seat to the nForce 2 with its theoretically outdated DirectX 7 architecture.
  • ASUS V9570 TD 256MB & ASUS V9560XT/TD 128MB (64bit) Video Cards on NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700/5600XT -
  • Visiontek 9600 256Mb Graphics Card review - Visiontek 9600 256Mb model goes for just about $100 online and VR-Zone decided to take a look at its performance relative to other graphics cards in the $100-150 market segment.
  • TDK DA-9000 CD-RW Jukebox review - ExtremeTech has posted a review of the TDK DA-9000 CD-RW Jukebox.
  • Gigabyte FX5950 Ultra GV-N595U-GT review - PC Stats has posted a review of Gigabyte FX5950 Ultra GV-N595U-GT videocard.
  • ICQ Lite Build #1302 - ICQ Lite Build #1302 (download) has been released.
  • Raine 0.39.4c - RAINE (download)  is an arcade emulator that emulates M68000 and M68020 based games. The emulator's main focus is on Taito and Jaleco game hardware. The emulator currently can run in excess of 120+ games.

Ah, geez, ATI has a crap card? LOL Say it ain't so. Now if we can get some realistic reviews of ATI vs Nvidia then we are getting somewhere. As for MS, I love the fact people are hacking it, because one day it will be a very very secure OS. It gets stronger each hole that is found..

Hmm...Microsoft are getting a lot of new holes been discovered....what's weird is their latest patch if only for the SP1 of windows Xp...this mean that none service packed XP doesn't need patching or that they didn't make a patch for SP1?

well when the new firewall comes with SP2.. lots of things for MS is gonna change. that can't leave the decision up to users anymore. too many are too dumb to realize the need for a router on broadband connections. Check the MS forums, those people are so dumb they can't even browse the newgroups for answers to their already posted questions. From what I heard, after the MS firewall, I wont need ZoneAlarm Pro anymore..yeah!
