  • 'Hi Sexy' SMS scam hits mobile users - Mobile phone users are being warned over a text message scam that could end up costing them hundreds of pounds. A message saying "hi sexy" is reported to be luring unsuspecting victims into signing up for a premium rate reverse charging service. Simply replying to the message registers the user to the service. Once signed up, the user is then bombarded with sexually explicit texts for which they have to pay
  • Intel's incredible shrinking chip - Intel's experimental SRAM memory chips measure approximately 109 square millimeters and contain up to 52 million bits of data, making them the densest SRAM chips ever produced.
  • Fujitsu shrinks fingerprint sensor for portable apps - Fujitsu Microelectronics America Inc. said it has developed a tiny fingerprint sensor that is about one-tenth the size and less than half the cost of conventional fingerprint sensors.
  • Atheros WLAN chip set ready for upcoming .11g spec - Atheros Communications Inc. said Monday (March 11) that it is sampling a wireless LAN chip set that supports both IEEE 802.11a and .11b wireless LAN standards and is capable of supporting the 802.11g specification once it is finalized later this year.
  • Nix security pandemic - major zlib/libz vuln details - The problem here is a stuff-up in a decompression routine which can corrupt the internal data structures of malloc by a double call to the free() function (double-free), discovered by Matthias Clasen. This enables memory space to be cleared twice, and can crash virtually any program. At the moment there are no known exploits circulating, but of course it's only a matter of time before there will be.
  • Intel Demonstrates Prescott's 0.09-micron L2 Cache - Just two weeks ago Intel officially introduced the successor to the Pentium 4 under the codename Prescott. To be released in the second half of 2003, Prescott will be Intel's first 0.09-micron (90nm) CPU that will feature the following: Hyper-Threading technology, Micro-architectural enhancements, Additional L2 cache,   800MHz FSB (200MHz Quad-Pumped),  90nm manufacturing process, Close to 100,000,000 transistors.
  • HP Unveils USB 2.0, FireWire DVD+RW Drive - Hewlett Packard today announces two new drives supporting DVD+R/W formats. One of the drive is also HP's first USB 2.0 drive, which happens to get FireWire as well. The new DVD Writer dvd200x-series supports the new DVD+R format, which improves compatibility with consumer DVD players and DVD-ROM drives.
