  • Amiga hardware makes a comeback - After a couple of years in what even its friends would surely accept as deep obscurity, Amiga is back. OK, on a set-top box. In Sweden. But hey, it's a Nokia set-top box, running Linux.
  • MS kicks off home broadband wireless beta test - Microsoft seems to be poised to give away an unspecified number of home wireless networking kits as part of a beta test program kicking off in late March. Naturally though, there are a couple of catches.
  • AMD wields its Hammer - At meetings in San Francisco, the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company showed off Hammer-based computers running a 64-bit version of Linux as well as Microsoft Windows. The Hammer family of processors will differ from other AMD chips--and other Intel processors--in that they will be able to run conventional 32-bit applications found on Windows PCs today as well as 64-bit applications. The bit numbers refer to the amount of data the processor can digest at once.
  • Another Security Hole Found In Macromedia Flash - A new technique for embedding malicious code in Flash files has been discovered, prompting Macromedia to patch its standalone Flash player. Using an undocumented feature in the Flash 5 authoring tool, a Macromedia customer found it was possible to create a "Trojaned" Flash movie that, when viewed using the standalone Flash player, would place a malicious script on the viewer's computer.
  • Experts warn of yet another IE flaw - The Computer Emergency Response Team (Cert) today released an advisory warning of yet another vulnerability affecting Microsoft Internet Explorer and Outlook. A buffer overflow vulnerability in the way Explorer handles embedded objects in HTML documents could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on a victim's system.
  • NVIDIA Unveils DVD Player/Decoder - A complete software DVD solution, developed entirely by NVIDIA, NVDVD utilizes an enhanced, state-of-the-art video decoding engine to deliver users a sharper, more true to life video image. NVDVD's integrated Dolby Digitar support delivers the benefits of Dolby Surround technology for users with multi-channel sound cards. For consumers who want to utilize external audio processors such as a home theater receiver, NVDVD can output direct digital audio via an S/PDIF connector for external processing of Dolby Digital, DTS, MPEG audio, or LPCM formats.

  • TurboCONNECT 2.0 - NetChip Technology Inc announced the availability of the world's first Hi-Speed USB 2.0 PC to PC network solution in a reference design platform, TurboCONNECT 2.0. This solution enables two or more Hi-Speed USB 2.0 equipped PCs to connect to each other using USB ports as a network and have data rates up to 480Mbps, almost five times faster than a conventional 100BT Ethernet network. With the complete capability of a computer network, users can share files, disk drives, printers and any other PC peripherals. Also, users can transfer gigabyte files from one PC to another within seconds, ideal for computer back-up, synchronization, file sharing, or diagnostics. NetChip is performing a live demo at the conference during the technology showcase (USB-IF pavilion and Booth #430).
  • Windows XP/2000 Security Patch: SMTP Rollup - Microsoft has released a patch that for Windows XP/2000 that will eliminate a vulnerability that exists because a malicious user could issue a specially formatted, non-RFC compliant SMTP command that will result in a Denial of Service attack. This would be carried out more typically through a custom application where the malformed data would cause the SMTP service to fail. Download now to prevent a possible Denial of Service Attack.
