- Confiscated PC Reveals Terrorist Focus On Water Supply - The
FBI's National Infrastructure Protection Center (NIPC) said it has uncovered
evidence that terrorists may have planned attacks on water supply systems in the
United States and abroad. According to a bulletin issued by the NIPC Tuesday and labelled
as of "high" importance, a computer, owned by an individual with indirect links
to Osama bin Laden, was found to contain several software programs used for structural
engineering of "dams and other water-retaining structures."

operated by several leading Internet security organizations are vulnerable to an old but
serious security flaw known as the cross-site scripting (CSS) attack.
- Latest hacker toy? Web-enabled Lego - We've seen web servers
that fit into matchboxes, but now a protocol hacker has created the world's first web-enabled
Lego brick. By porting the extremely small uIP TCP/IP (transmission control
protocol/internet protocol) stack to the Lego Mindstorms platform, Olaf Christ has set the
foundations for a Lego brick web server. In a posting to the LegOS newsgroup on Monday,
Christ said: "I've got the very first and only TCP/IP enabled RCX [Robot Command
eXplorer] in my room, cool, eh?"
- The Adobe Altercast Released - Adobe is now shipping Adobe AlterCast, its new dynamic
imaging server software. Built on award-winning Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
technology, Adobe AlterCast automates time-intensive image production tasks,
allowing businesses to dynamically update their Web sites with personalized graphics for
more effective communication.
- Some T65s hum (but no Ericsson recall) - Ericsson has denied media
reports that it has begun the recall of a line of GPRS phones which showed performance
problems late last year.
- Dead Satellite Heads for Pacific Splashdown - An out-of-use NASA
satellite is expected to fall into the atmosphere, with pieces surviving re-entry
predicted to hit the Pacific Ocean at 11:30 pm EST, about 3,000 miles east of Australia.
The estimated debris field is expected to be 800 to 1,000 kilometers (500 to 625 miles).
"[Debris] should land in an uninhabited region of the South Pacific in the vicinity
of the Cooke Islands," Bob Sodano of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center told Wireless NewsFactor. The
prediction is not hard and fast,
- Windows 2000 security fixes released - SRP1 is a cumulative collection of security fixes released since
Microsoft issued Windows 2000
Service Pack 2 in May. Service packs are collections of fixes and enhancements
periodically released for Windows. Service Pack 3 for Windows 2000 is currently in beta
testing. To install this rollup package, you must have Windows 2000 Professional, Server,
or Advanced Server with SP2 installed.

for beta testers to evaluate new V.92 modem software that offers 30% to 40% higher
throughput with the new V.44 compression standard, quicker connection times, and a Modem
on Hold ability, which allows you to "pause the Internet connection on an incoming
call for a short period of time, then resume it when you are done talking," according
to 3Com. Testers who have the 3C3FEM656C, 3CXFEM656C, CXSH654B or 3C3SH654B PC Cards are
specifically being targeted for this beta.
- WD400 vs Maxtor D740X-6L comparison - The Western Digital
WD400BB and the Maxtor D740X-6L 40GB drives are both considered to be 'performance ATA
desktop drives' by their respective manufacturers. Both drives spin at 7200rpm. The
Western Digital WD400BB is an ATA100 drive where as the Maxtor D740X-6L is an ATA133
drive. I'm running both drives on my trusty KG7-Raid using the onboard HPT370 raid
controller. Since the HPT370 is only capable of ATA100 this is still a fair comparison.

coolers had an optional noiseless mode by using a resistor to slow down the fan, these
new models have an adjustable fan speed connector (FAN MATE 1). Now you're able to
adjust the RPM of the fan to fit your needs. More airflow for a faster CPU, less airflow
to get a more quiet system. That's nice huh! ;)
