- Europe foots the Xbox bill for Microsoft - The latest
company to catch flak over this attitude is Microsoft, whose Xbox is (finally) launching
in our neck of the woods on March 14th at a price of L299 / €479, compared to the US
list price of $299 (L210 / €340) and the recently announced Japanese launch at Y34,800
(L185 / €300). This means that Europeans will
be paying significantly more for their Xboxes /WTF?! :(/, despite the fact that
Microsoft has a dedicated factory pumping out the consoles in Hungary, a country not
renowned for its high labour costs.
- Anthrax researchers want your PC - Individuals can participate in the
project by downloading a screensaver at Intel's Philanthropic Peer-to-Peer Program and donating their PC's spare
resources to build a virtual
supercomputer capable of analyzing billions of molecules in a fraction of the time it
would take in a laboratory, the group said.

- Intel Unveils Seven New Mobile Chips, Completes Transition -
Intel Corp. has announced seven new
mobile processors built on its new 0.13 micron manufacturing process. The company's
entire mobile product line now has been upgraded from the previous technology, which used
the 0.18 micron process.
- Netscape Sues Microsoft - Netscape Communications, a division of
AOL Time Warner, filed
suit against Microsoft on Tuesday, claiming that the software giant's business
practices have harmed it.
- Philips joins copy protected CD fracas - Philips, the Dutch
company which co-created the Compact Disc format along with Sony almost 20 years ago, is
standing defiantly against
the industry's use of copy-protected CDs.
- Sybase unveils new software - Sybase unveiled its Business
Process Integrator Suite, which features both integration and "business
process" software. Integration software enables companies to link their business
software together so they can communicate. Business process software allows companies to
choreograph how an e-commerce site functions and how information is passed through
computing systems to complete a transaction.
- DVD players ready for a makeover - The market is getting so
competitive and profit margins are thinning so quickly that companies are starting to combine DVD
playback with other features.
- ATI ships Radeon 7500 All-In-Wonder (in North America) - ATI is shipping the
All-In-Wonder Radeon 7500 in North America. Carrying a list price of $199, the
multimedia graphics card is choc-ful of PC-on-TV features.

- ATI vs NVIDIA - It goes without saying that ATI
and Nvidia are locked in a battle for the desktops, notebooks, game consoles, TV
tuners, and hearts of consumers. As in any good fight, sometimes it's not the combatants
that decide the contest, but a bystander taking an interest in the outcome. Whether it's

- Geforce 4 MX Specs - Guys at Reactor Critical has posted
some specifications about the Geforce 4 MX: 0.15 micron. 2 rendering pipelines, 2 TMUs
each. Various core-clokings from 250 to 300 MHz depending on the version of the GPU.
According to several sources, the clockings will be as follows: GeForce4 MX420 - 250 MHz.
GeForce4 MX440 - 275 MHz. GeForce4 MX460 - 300 MHz.
- Network Cards & Overclocking - PC Stats has posted an article
about how Network Cards (NIC's) handle overclocking, and if they might be the thing that's
holding you back from getting higher speeds. As you already know, every peripheral in the
PCI slots of your computer is linked to the FSB, and when you're going past 133 MHz (with
most boards) you're going to be running the PCI bus out of sync. This means the PCI cards
will no longer running at their specified speeds - they willl be running faster then the
are supposed to.

- Microsoft Begins DirectX 9.0 Beta - Beta testers have begun to
receive word of the impending first beta release of DirectX 9.0, the multimedia
foundation behind Windows. DirectX 9 first made headlines at Meltdown 2001 last summer and
is expected to feature advanced pixel shading and gamma correction.
