Seems like a rumour and might not be any truth to it.
But, if it does happen, you can tell how overpriced these chips really were.

Pricing is more based on what people are willing to pay for it then what it costs to produce something.
Obviously there are upfront costs but i would not be suprised if on average the production cost is around 10% of the retail price.
they profit around 30% invest around 30% in rnd ... with overhead you already down to 30% production cost |
