I guess people are fine with looking at small screens ~2cm away from their eyes. Never think that's pretty fucked up thing to do, so they just keep at it. Sure, it's fine, go sit 2~3cm away from your 4K TV and look at it for 30 mins, then take a pause, then look at it again, do that every day 10-12 times a day. It's fine. |

Just looking at a screen all day without proper breaks is bad. I been behind screens for +30 years. So ya that shit right in front of your eyeballs!? damn right its gonna have an effect! I don't care what insufficient bs research was done to say otherwise. That stuff will detroy your eyes. |

My eyesight is still perfect (knocks on wood) after 20 years of using computers.
I think the secret is decreasing brightness as much as possible. Not staring at 2cm distance like idiots wearing VR might help too. |

it's genetics mainly. My mom never used a computer since they didn't exist, and she had -6 |

Mainly genetic, yes. ...and sugar and lifestyle.
Those with too much blood sugar will have their sight degrade faster.
And if you sit a lot instead of playing outdoors, your blood sugar is going to be high.
Kids today will be blind before they even hit 30, with or without VR.
A phone and a bag of chips a day with do that to you.
Here's a 1000years old advise:
Too much of anything is bad for your body.
Devs should know this above everyone else - they sit a LOT in front of screens.
So, I say Danny Bittman is an idiot - did he think these things do not apply to him?
lol
Pathetic.
Maybe he should have watched the health and safety at work videos and retain some of that knowledge. It's there for a reason.
Anyway, in conclusion, those peeps marketing VR should be forced to wear it all day. |

I still say it's mainly genetic. My mother didn't sit a lot at all. I didn't sit a lot, except in school, but both mine and her vision degraded. My father sit all the time, he still doesn't needs glasses. My best friend is System Admin, sits a lot, stares at computer screens for past 30 years almost all day, and in past 10 year into mobile phone screen (raking ~9 hrs SoT daily) has perfect vision.
My vision stabilized and stopped degrading when I started working and sitting a lot. |

One way to keep your eyesight going is to, when working or gaming on a screen, every now and again, look and focus on an object behind the screen in the distance. Be it a tv in the living room- how I game. My tv is directly behind my monitor. Or look outside the window or item in the office and, focus on an object; bird, leaves on a tree and try and get the detail. But this is a generation that grows up short sighted on mobile phones and now VR. |
