I wonder how they intend to compensate all Intel processor owners worldwide for the past 20 years - they sold quite a bit.
I have about 10 of them myself.
Shipping a brand new, fixed processor of equivalent (or better speed) does not help because i most cases, the entire PC must be upgraded... (MoBo and RAM at the very least, controller cards and possibly disks, too).
If they did release a bunch of new sockets every year, this would not be the issue...
But here is a question: was this their strategy all along? They knew that people won't upgrade CPUs because the new ones do not really bring improvements to the masses. So, enter a fix that slows down the CPUs: tada, suddenly everyone has to upgrade.
