While I am not fan of the genre, and this specific game, I do like this model.
It removes the undesired elements from the loop as a whole - killing all business for the real pirates and hackers that hide nasty surprised in cracks.
This model allows users low on cash - like me - to play the game like everyone else, safely, without exposing themselves to trojans/malware.
It's a long-term investment from their side though because these users will be able to buy the game only a year or so from now (whenever there's a good price drop so they can afford it). At least, that's what I do these days...
I bet they got their aspirations from CD Project Red.
Bold move. I predict a long, successful future for these peeps as well (unless some greedy bastard buys them).

I download it just to help seeding it...
