DICE general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson confirmed to PC Gamer at E3 that Battlefield 4 will not support mods. Troedsson caveated that user-generated content is something that DICE finds very interesting, and that its something the studio has been talking about at a high level.

I never did, so this won't have an impact on my buying decision.
However, I do feel bad for those who'd want to extend their gaming experience by modding because I have been screwed numerous times like this. But, I bought quite a few of such games anyway because there's always a camp that won't rest until they unpack the game data, mod it and repackage it again for everyone to enjoy. |

Remember that opening a game up to modding also opens it up to hackers. I'd rather do without mods than play a game infested with 14 year-old script kiddies loaded to the gills on cheat hacks. |

Well, yes, it has two edges and yes, it can be a major pain in the butt.
Over the years, I kinda figured out how to differentiate modifications that come from reliable sources and which ones are from the byproducts, so I can avoid them fairly well. |
