Elite: Dangerous - E3 2014 Trailer - movie|
(hx) 09:22 AM CEST - Jun,11 2014 | Frontier Developments has released the E3 2014 trailer for Elite: Dangerous, showcasing the vast scope and freedom available in the world's largest gaming sandbox. It's nice to see space flight getting new games... it's been so long!

Apathy Curve | (07:25 PM CEST - Jun,12 2014 ) | Hrm. That does look interesting, gx. I'll add it to my watched list. The May update video is very nice, although I wish these developers could figure out that SPACE IS NOT FUCKING FULL OF ROCKS. It's very, very empty. Lots and lots of, well... space. Hence the term.

Nah, I have backed that game and rocks are generated in SOME systems, majority of systems don't have them, some systems will have nothing in them, some will have gas, some will asteroids...He is making last few videos in systems with asteroids because he is showing how AI works, can't do that in an empty system, at least not that well.
Also, it's just one developer :) One man made all that. Game will be released this summer, as he promised. So in one year, with some 200K from kickstarter one man made all that...go figure o.O When you are talented and work hard, anything is possible I guess.

Frontier was founded in 1994 by David Braben, co-author of the seminal "Elite", to carry forward his groundbreaking work and development ethos into projects with a scale and ambition that only teams of skilled professionals can tackle.
David plays a very active role in the company. With a talented team of developers and experienced managers he has helped Frontier successfully to navigate three exciting decades of the ever-changing technology landscape of mass-market gaming platforms and overseen Frontier's emergence as one of the worldwide games industry's leading independent developers.
Frontier’s development strengths are immersive, fun gameplay design and unparalleled artistic quality underpinned and enabled by cutting-edge technology development and a talent for getting the best out of hardware and UI.
We get our games into customers’ hands by: i) working with a number of top publishers, with whom we have developed long term relationships, and ii) a growing number of self-published titles using digital distribution channels on the major gaming platforms.
We are currently over 200 individuals with development studios in Cambridge, UK and Halifax, Canada. We are actively looking to recruit strong candidates, both graduate and industry experienced, in all areas to work on our exciting, diverse mix of projects on cutting-edge gaming platforms.
... Elite: Dangerous is being developed using Frontier Development's own in-house "Cobra" game development engine ...
We're currently in the fourth iteration (I believe) of the Cobra engine. I don't know much about the coding / tech side of things but all of our project moving forward use our own tech with updates / bolt-ons unique to each game.

my post was not about Frontier and Elite Dangerous, it was about a game called Limit Theory. http://ltheory.com/
Now, it probably isn't just one guy, but since I have been following development of LT, I firmly believe that at least 90% of the work is done by one guy. Everything is PGC anyway so most of the work involves algorithms since he made game engine right at the beginning...
th4t1guy | (02:39 AM CEST - Jun,13 2014 ) | I think the keyword here is "co-author".
Don't get me wrong, I loved all the Elite games, but I doubt most of its technical brilliance came from Braben. All he's done since then is Rollercoaster Tycoon and some crap wii games.
From what I've seen of the new Elite, there's no landing on planets. It seems like it's heavily focused on combat. I know the combat was shit in Elite 2, but that's not why people played it. It also looked he started off with some idea of a monthly-payment MMO model, then switched the idea to DLC-pay-to-win space combat sim.
Tom | (02:51 PM CEST - Jun,13 2014 ) | This game looks like a snore fest. I'm waiting for Star Citizen. This is also a horrible video too, tells you absolutely nothing about the game.
th4t1guy | (03:48 PM CEST - Jun,13 2014 ) | Star Citizen is just an expensive Freespace mod.
