Excited to get your hands on the Xiaomi Mi Band 5? After it was announced last month in China, we've been waiting to hear about a worldwide release, and it seems that date may be coming slap bang in the middle of July.
July 15 looks like the date
that the first people outside of China will be able to buy the fitness tracker. That's according to a listing on a third-party retailer called HonorBuy, which explicitly says that pre-orders will be sent out to customers on July 15.

They seem to be very keen on tracking the population.
Unfortunately, they are not trustworthy.

There's no GPS!
Just time, alarm, steps, sleep monitoring...I don't need more ;-)
I don't care if they are watching how many hours I sleep every day :P
Battery lasts nearly 40 days, waterproof up to 50 meter, very durable and cheap!
Bought version 1,2,3, skipped version 4 though
Now I'm waiting for THIS :D 8)

Right. Just as Alexa does not watch - well, listen - your every move.
You are naive to believe everything your read.
I'm pretty sure the governments require building in quite a few surprises - including this one.
For the record, to know your location, GPS is not required - mobile networks and wifi hotspots reveal your estimated location in a blink of an eye.
Neither it is required to send data continuously.
A good tracker collects data in background and waits for an opportunity to send it out in batches when there's high traffic, so you would never notice.
The video mentions 14-20 days of battery life - where did you get that 40 days?
version 5 has less battery than the version 4 had!

I know Mi Band technical specs and I don't believe they were able to built some extra sensors inside. Especially for that money. It's very simple device that use bluetooth to connect your phone/app.
If they want spy owner they can do it via cell phone. But the band itself is not able to find your location if you don't have your cell phone around. For example - on the beach :-)
Battery life is ~ 20 days, if you use all features (notification from phone, pulse monitoring and shit like that). I don't use nothing, so battery lasts two times more! *wink*

Does it scratch easily?

Csimbi> Does it scratch easily?
It's not scratch resistant, but surprisingly it's not so bad

Did you buy one of those covers for it?

Csimbi> Did you buy one of those covers for it?
Nope. It's wasn't necessary. The glass looks surprisingly good after 2 years.
2 years nonstop on my wrist - work, gym, garden....you can see a few scratches there and there but I would say it's acceptable for that money.
