Xbox One Supports External Storage - briefly
(hx) 02:36 PM CEST - May,22 2013 - Post a comment / read (6)
If you are worried about the Xbox One's non-removable 500GB hard drive, you shouldn't be. Microsoft told Engadget that external drives are supported and can be used for everything the internal drive is used for.
We had the opportunity to chat with Albert Penello, senior director of product planning at Microsoft this afternoon, who was kind enough to clarify a few topics for us regarding the recently-unveiled Xbox One. One thing we were quick to ask about was the integrated storage. 500GB sounds like a lot today -- but so did the 20GB unit in the original Xbox 360. The HDD there was, at least, replaceable. Can you do the same with its successor? Sadly, no. Hard drives in the Xbox One are non-user-serviceable, but Penello confirmed that the USB 3.0 port is there for external storage, which can be used for everything the internal storage can be used for. That includes game installs and downloads. So, don't fret: adding storage will be just as easy as ever.

So we have another hypocritical statement from M$. quote:
your games are tied to your account not your hardware
I can bet you won't be plugging your external hdd loaded with game installs, into your mates Eggbox to play it. Likewise you won't be able to back it up- DRM to the hilt!
Pathetic.
There's more twists and turn in this piece of garbage, it's confused M$!
I can use external hdd on ps3 for music, videos, pictures and for owned content back-up. But not game installs. I can imagine this being hacked stupid....
Better to have the ability to stick in whatever sized hdd you want
Huge fail.

Another few points to consider that weren't fully explained:

1. Do you need an active Xbox Live account to use the cloud storage and other online features within the scope of the game. For that matter, will you need one to even tether games to it? Xbox Live is not free so I sure hope not.

2. What happens if your Live account is banned? Do you lose all access to your games as well?

3. How will friends be able to share games with eachother with this new system or how will you be able to rent games? Will the person borrowing/renting the game be expected to pay the used game fee and will that remove the license from the original owner so that they will have to pay the fee AGAIN to re-claim their game?

4. Will installing to HDD remove the annoyance of having to keep the disc in the drive every time you want to play? I REALLY HATE having to do that when the only reason for it is DRM and nothing else.

While I have a 360 right now, I am seriously considering going Sony for the next console generation unless the above points are clarified and the decision favourable to me as a consumer.

500GB may be enough for many people but the OPTION to change the hard drive yourself would be nice. I personally would rather not have an external drive tethered to the Xbox. If I buy an XB1 and it is possible to change the internal drive using some homebrew tools I very well may. It'd be nicer if they just put it behind a flap and let the system format it for me though.

There's no such thing as a non-removable hard drive, lol

One of the main reasons I bought a ps3 about 8years ago, was the sheer choice of putting my OWN hdd, free internet gaming. Buy a cheap 40gig ps3 (back then) and stick in a 500gb. M$ are control freaks, period. Pay for Internet gaming, pay for official hdd, even pay for a HD disc player.
Humans amaze me how stupid the majority are. They buy into several of the biggest control freaks on the planet; namely Apple and M$. You are royally tied to them, can't do fuck all with their hardware without breaking it and getting yourself banned. Why bother with such $hit that controls you? Isn't it logical to want open hardware (huge plus to allow the gamer to upgrade the hdd just like a pc) or DRM (reasonably) free music nearly any music player other than Apple! Obviously not....... Don't get me started with children's kinetic.... Another fad that is lost on me. Is loyalty so loyal you stick your nose up their arse even when they are wiping your face in the $hit that they dish out and you STILL accept it???
I want to buy and that is it. If I want more i want that choice, but not when it is a disability compared to fellow gamers with the same hardware, they buy more and it hinders you. Excuse me, but that is soooo wrong. Gold, silver is just pure bull$hit. Dysfunctional low level immaturity. No wonder kids with Xbox's are fighting and stabbing each other or totally unruly barstewards to their parents. Nice with MicroShaft...pure adult of you.

Singularity - PC, PS3, Xbox 360 - Raven have stated that Singularity's main gameplay mechanism is a device, known in the game as the TMD (Time Manipulation Device). The TMD has the ability to move a single object through time, both into the future, and into the past. It can also freeze an object in time, and has an 'Impulse' function, which can be used as a weapon once upgraded. The TMD is multifunctional, as it can be used as a powerful weapon, but also as a tool in puzzle solving scenarios. The device's use as a weapon is unconventional when compared to the weapons in other games. For instance, using the TMD's "rewind" function on a human opponent will send them into a "placental" state where they revert to an almost amoebic state, before slowly dying. The device is essential for solving puzzles, such as sending a lock forward in time, causing it to rust it in real time, or sending a broken bridge backwards in time until it returns to a usable state. Sending a tree trunk forwards in time while standing on it will cause it grow very quickly, allowing the player to reach higher areas. (675 hits)

Crash Time 4: The Syndicate (PC, Xbox 360) - Experience the singleplayer-campaign with spectacular shootings, reckless driving through the german city of Cologne and a blind date in way you will never forget.
