Blue Monday have posted an interview with Matthias Koranda, author, project leader and designer of WildLife Park, the upcoming zoo simulator. Here is a snip:
BlueMonday:What are the differences between this game and Microsoft’s Zoo Tycoon?
M.Koranda: To make a long answer short: In Wildlife Park you will have the challenge to manage animal environments all over the world with individual climate requirements. The architectural style will vary according to the environment. We tried to avoid the chunky and concrete appearance of a cliche small city zoo. We are working very hard to simulate the animals’ real behavior and have much more interaction between animals and visitors. Why should you avoid fighting scenes, sex life and death? The real animal life is tough and you have to keep your park safe both for animals and humans. Let’s take the “water animals” since they are a good indicator of the differences: You will research the world of oceans including orcas, dolphins and white sharks and you will be able to have your own dolphin and orca circus-like performance . The water management is much more challenging because it’s based on a simulated water flow including waterfalls rather than a blue animated ground pattern.
And one other aspect: the visitor paths can be designed more interesting with bridges and the like. To sum it up: Zoo Tycoon focuses on the Tycoon aspect, while we attempt to make the RollerCoaster Tycoon approach: Bring the fun of building and depth both of experimenting and interaction together, taking reality a tiny step further and bring it to the world of animals or zoos if you want.
