- StarCraft II beta impressions - Bigdownload's
John Callaham has posted his impressions
from playing StarCraft II beta: 'After playing the beta for a few
hours, it's clear that the game is already highly polished . For most
developers, the beta process works as both a final game demo in
addition to fixing bugs and improving the game's balance. The fact that
the game looks almost release ready shows that Blizzard continues to be
a stickler for not releasing games until they are good and ready for
the public to access them.'
- Fallout: New Vegas - Preview - USA
Today has a short piece on Fallout: New
Vegas.
- No LAN or dedicated servers in Command &
Conquer 4 - Those looking to play the newest Command
& Conquer on LAN are going to be disappointed. It was recently announced
that Command & Conquer 4 will include absolutely no LAN or
dedicated server functionality. This is sure to be a blow to the
tournament organizers who were planning to use C&C 4 in their
events.The reason for this is apparently the leveling system used in
the game.
- Borderlands - Secret Armory of General Knoxx DLC
Preview - Borderlands is getting a new DLC entitled Secret Armory of General
Knoxx. The DLC will be released for all platforms, PC, Xbox
360, and PS3, although there's no info as of yet, when this will be.
- Two Worlds II - Hands-on
Preview - Games Radar has written an article
where they're talking about their hands-on experience. Be aware that
there will be spoilers, especially if you haven't played or finished
the game.
- EVE Online: Tyrannis expansion announced -
CCP announced a new EVE expansion in Tyrannis,
with this one allowing mining and structure-building on any planet in
the MMO.
- Magicka - Teaser Trailer - A teaser trailer for this
action/RPG from Arrowhead Game Studios, being published by Paradox, has
been released. A sense of humour and 4-way co-op seem the big draw
cards.
- Metro 2033 PC Steamed - Valve
Software's Steamworks suite will power all PC copies of 4A's
post-apocalyptic shooter Metro 2033, Valve
and publisher THQ announced. Steamworks will give provide
"auto-updating, Steam Achievements, Steam support for in-game DLC, and
more" while requiring Metro 2033 be played through Steam. Metro 2033
arrives for PC and Xbox 360 on March 16 in North America followed by a
European launch on March 19, packing DirectX 11 features on PC. THQ is
offering a free copy of space asshole simulator Red Faction Guerrila
with pre-orders on Steam
- Stargate Resistance developer files for Chapter 11
bankruptcy - The team behind the upcoming MMO
Stargate Worlds and the just released third person multiplayer shooter
Stargate Resistance have now filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. According
to an official statement posted on the game's message boards, "....our
entire staff is in-house working on upgrades and expansions for
Stargate Resistance, and we continue to be motivated and excited by the
response we've received from our customers. This will all be sorted out
in the legal and proper manner, and all of us on the development side
of things hope it's done as quickly as possible."
- Amazing Bad Company 2 Beta and Demo Statistics -
3.5 Million Participants - DICE and EA have passed along word of some amazing
statistics surrounding the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 beta and demo. In
addition to the news that the demo has been downloaded by over 3.5
million people, other statistics were released that are sure to
impress. The PC beta and console demo is coming to a close on the 25th.
The actual game will be out on March 2nd of this year.
- Stardock Launches ImpulseTV - Stardock
has added a new way for gamers to discover and learn about games on its
Impulse
digital distribution service. The new service will reportedly
help connect online friends with similar tastes in games by
facilitating discussions around each episode. Fans will also be able to
see who else has downloaded a game featured on an episode of ImpulseTV,
and use the chat and discussions stemming from each episode to help
inform their purchasing decisions. All of this functionality is
available via the integrated ImpulseTV episode screen.
- God of War III gone gold - Those hoping
that God of War III will see no delays before its March 16th release
can now rest easy, some what. Thanks to Christer Ericson's Twitter, who
just so happens to be Director of Technology over at Sony Santa Monica,
we now know that the game has gone gold and is entering the
manufacturing stage.
- Sony to Remove OtherOS in Next PS3 Firmware Update
- According to Owen Stampflee, a Linux Product Manager at
Fixstars Corporation, Sony will remove OtherOS in the next PS3
Firmware update due to the recent GeoHot PS3 Hack.
Although this comes as no surprise to PlayStation 3 Slim owners, where
OtherOS is already removed, it would contradict Sony's previous
statement to standard PS3 owners.
