Vista To Take Hard Stand Against Piracy - tech
(hx) 05:24 PM CEST - Oct,05 2006 - Post a comment / read (4)
It seems that Microsoft has had it with people running bootleg copies of Windows XP so this time around they built in special features into Vista that will curtail piracy:
People running a version of Windows Vista that it believes is pirated will initially be denied access to some of the most anticipated Vista features. That includes Windows Aero, an improved graphics technology. If a legitimate copy is not bought within 30 days, the system will curtail functionality much further by restricting users to just the Web browser for an hour at a time.

Two days - two freakin days it took to break the XP valdiation thingy when it came out and spread it so even people like me who then had dial up would be able to download it. So what demonic power is possessing them to even fatom that they can "hit piracy hard"?

Bullocks I call!

Note: I do own XP licenses my self - got my self one nearly at launch and now I have... many... bah...

piracy will never stop...unless they make it a requirement to be on the net at all times...but then who the hell will buy it if they can't use windows if they cant connect to the net :p

Two days for XP, two days for Vista.

Microsoft shouldn't even waste their effort trying to clamp down on Piracy because it simply isn't possible.
Big-talk Scare tactics will never work either, it will just persuade computer illiterates that bought an illegal copy of XP off their mate to perhaps consider buying Vista.

Actually, since MS has been 'forced' to open a lot of their code(thanks Euro guys and OSS bs movement), it's imperative for them to seek other measures to confirm your license. So it's likely there will be checks occuring online to ensure your copy is valid. For those who don't have internet, you will likely have to call as you did before.

I am absolutely sure each and everytime you sign on to the internet there will be a encrypted call to MS to check your license. They have a right to protect their products just like games call home ALL the time.

I personally don't care. I'm not that cheap that I can't go out and buy their OS, I haven't really used a non-legit copy of XP anyhow. Last OS I used that was ripped was Win 95/98 and even then I bought (gulp WinME, doh!)I've had to call and 'activate' after a few upgrades with XP, no big deal really.

Overall who cares?.. sure there is a good chance it will be defeated.

As it is, how can anyone even use Vista without X-Fi drivers... God, I hate Creative Labs.
