Video games affirm violence among kids?
- briefly

According to
this Ochanomizu University study
, young videogame-playing children are more violent. The study claims: "The more elementary school students play video games, the more likely they are to get irritated and want to hit others, a study by university researchers has discovered." Surprisingly, another study on British children also released at the International Simulation and Gaming Association meeting gave different results, finding that those who preferred violent games more were not as aggressive in their actual lifestyles. I would rather agree with the British study. I do not believe there is a connection between violent games and kids turning to violence. Now don't get me wrong here - young children should be censored in what they are playing because their minds still are developing. Parents must be responsible enough to explain to their young children that shoot-em-up games are just games. Any other thoughts out there?

Well, the shop owners are dumb. lol When i was 17, soon to be 18, i brought Duke-Nukem 3D for the N64 and they never asked my age. :/ This was when the Game Store was EB in Ilford, Essex.

Its true children are impressionable and gather alot of behavior and understanding from their environment as well as hard wired from their own personalities. Its up to the nurturing and teaching of their parents to show the kids the right from wrong, the good from the bad. Society has been given or taken a good amount of responsiblity for childhood development whether this is argueably part of the problem too. Computer games in and of itself doesn't create bad kids and only understanding on the part of the child will differentiate between what is a game and what is reality.

I do in games what i cant actually do in reality. I wont go at 200 km in reality 'cause i know if i crash it would be my end. But i can still do it in games such as Vice City, NFS,... Many studies try to make a bad image of gamers... but they cannot still hurt us... Sorry for my english, am from Argentina.

Games never hurt people, It's dumb f'wits that think games hurt people that really do the damage. The only way a game can hurt someone is if you throw it at them.

My Mom banned me from watching Batman when I was 10 (This is right after the Vietnam War). So I went outside and smashed my trucks, played Hockey, played with BB gun....and Today I can say I'm not a violent adult.

You know our governments bann so many things to try to keep us on the right track. Why not think about our productive cities falling into the hands of criminal, drugs dealer, rapist, murder, gangs and all kind of violence. I mean just look at games and movies over asia they got some of the bloody games and movies ever. On the bottom-line games are games so have fun play it but IF YOU are one of those dumbass cool kids who like to copy-cat the games by killing people then it your damn friggin problem.

All games should be banned for kids below 18 or even 21. Sure it might suck for the little whingers, but it would mean that all developers would be forced to make games for older people so the market wouldn't be flooded with all the patronising, dumb, simple, teen-male oriented games that it is now.

Well, it depends on the society. When kids play violent video games in relatively strong and peaceful societies, the society can sort of absorb these influences like a big sponge and everything's fine. That's because the society is relatively sane and has good ways built into it for preventing violence (although there's no guarantee it will stay that way). But take the opposite case: take kids who play violent games in an already horribly broken society where community has disappeared, ethnic hatred is typical, the upper classes increasingly squeeze more work for less pay out of the lower classes, the schools suck, guns are everywhere, and the politicians of the country are big-talking warmakers. Then all bets are off. I live in that society, world famous for our violence, where you could say we eat it for breakfast and shit it out at the end of the day. Maybe some kids here will be influenced to recreate the violence that they see in games. Probably not many. Sadly, it almost doesn't matter when a society's levels of violence reach a certain height because there are so many causes, so much dysfunction that makes shit happen, that you can be sure games are only the tiniest part of the blame, if even that.

You stinkin pigfarts people need to wake the hell-up. Don't you understand you mindless dumb-dumb, I mean come on guys this is "AMERICA" its a "FREEDOM" country. The game industries will make games some or bloodies violence than the others. But YOU don't "HAVE" to buy it or play it nobody will make you too. Just like food issues some peoples complain about fatty foods, come on you don't have to eat it. Well anyway you get my point on what I mean. Now back to the violence video games WHY NOT VIOLENCE come on folks just play it and have fun it only games you don't need to go out the next with your daddy fully auto AK-47 or M-16 to school and spray everthing that move. But then again if your mom&dad is one of those perfect-ass-wannabe who dislike blood, guns and violence in video games then too bad for you kiddos. On my final judgement video games are only games which it purpose is to make us human amaze,happy,thrill,joyful,pump-up and delightful. So remember its only a video games.

Brad, stick to video games, boy. Fatty foods is a terrible comparison that doesn't help you make your case. It's fine if people want to get fat--up to a point. After that, super-fatties have higher medical bills that the rest of society has to pay for through higher taxes for medicare, higher insurance rates, and crowded hospitals. If you're trying to justify being a tubby, think twice so the rest of us don't have to clean up after you.
