Lyman begins his demonstration by talking about the heart of an RPG, which is, of course, character creation. He walks through the entire process of creating a character, which begins by selecting a vampire "clan". Clans in the Vampire universe correspond to the many different versions of vampires seen in popular mythology, ranging from the Anne Rice pretty boys of the Toreador clan to the monstrously misshapen bloodsuckers of the Nosferatu. Lyman also points out that selection of a clan will be tremendously important, offering different bonuses and penalties, dialogue choices, spells, skills and even ways of going through the story. Eventually Lyman selects a Tremere Blood Sorcerer, allocates his stats and selects his name - "Bob".
