- AMD Ryzen 7 4700U 8-Core Renoir Zen 2 APU Leaks With 4.2GHz
Boost Clock - Like all of the upcoming Renoir APUs, the Ryzen 7 4700U is based on
AMD's 7nm Zen 2 architecture. As is often the case with AMD's APUs,
the
switchover to a newer architecture/process node (in this case, Zen 2)
is coming months after it landed for the desktop Ryzen 3000 processors.
The
Ryzen 7 4700U was spotted in PCMark 10 and it shows a CPU with 8 cores
capable of executing 8 threads. The CPU also features a base clock of
2GHz and a boost clock of 4.2GHz. While we're uncertain if these are
the actual final clock speeds for the Ryzen 7 4700U, it's worth noting
that the base clock is 300MHz lower, while the boost clock has been
increased by 200MHz. Compared to the Ryzen 7 3700U, the Ryzen 7 4700U's
sore of 4,893 is nearly 20 percent higher. The result also puts the
Ryzen 7 4700U ahead of the Intel Core i7-10510 (4,322) and the Core
i7-1065G7 (4,758), but falls short of the Core i7-10710U (5,457).
- AMD Ryzen 9 4900H 8-Core, 16-Thread Beast CPU Is Coming To
Gaming Laptops - The leak comes courtesy of LambdaTek, which has
unearthed listings for
several ASUS laptops featuring the Ryzen 5 4600H and Ryzen 7 4800H
CPUs. Both of the processors are SMT-enabled, which means that the
former has 6 physical cores capable of executing 12 threads, while the
latter is an 8-core part with 16 threads.
- Samsung Starts Production of AI Chips for Baidu - Baidu,
a leading Chinese-language Internet search provider, and Samsung
Electronics, a world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, today
announced that Baidu's first cloud-to-edge AI accelerator, Baidu
KUNLUN, has completed its development and will be mass-produced early
next year. Baidu KUNLUN chip is built on the company's advanced XPU, a
home-grown neural processor architecture for cloud, edge, and AI, as
well as Samsung's 14-nanometer (nm) process technology with its I-Cube
(Interposer-Cube) package solution. The chip offers 512 gigabytes per
second (GBps) memory bandwidth and supplies up to 260 Tera operations
per second (TOPS) at 150 watts. In addition, the new chip allows Ernie,
a pre-training model for natural language processing, to infer three
times faster than the conventional GPU/FPGA-accelerating model.
Leveraging the chip's limit-pushing computing power and power
efficiency, Baidu can effectively support a wide variety of functions
including large-scale AI workloads, such as search ranking, speech
recognition, image processing, natural language processing, autonomous
driving, and deep learning platforms like PaddlePaddle.
- Superhot is now free for the next 24 hours - Epic Games
has announced that Superhot is now available for free on Epic Games Store.
PC gamers can visit the game’s EGS page and acquire their free copy for
the next 24 hours. Superhot is the first-person shooter where time
moves only when you move. The game does not feature regenerating health
bars or conveniently placed ammo drops.
- Apple Quietly Launches Cheaper Annual Plan for Arcade Games - Apple
Arcade, the company's subscription service for exclusive, curated
games, is now available for $50/year upfront. The
monthly price is $5/month, which works out to $60/year.
- Locked iPhones On iOS 13.3 Uncrackable? - A company that
develops digital forensics tools for businesses and law
enforcement specialists has found a way to hack into locked Apple
iPhone devices running the latest version of iOS. The method is said to
work on most iPhone models, from the iPhone 5s through the iPhone X,
and is effective on iOS 12 through iOS 13.3. The company is called
Elcomsoft, and the newly expanded ability comes by way of an update to
its iOS Forensic Toolkit. Specifically, the update allows the software to extract select
keychain records in the BFU
(Before First Unlock). That means it can pluck sensitive data from
affected iPhone devices that have been powered off or rebooted, without
having to enter in a passcode.
- Facebook's Latest Epic Security Fail Exposes 267 Million User
Phone Numbers - The phone numbers were in a database that included
both phone numbers
and Facebook user IDs. Security researcher Bob Diachenko along with
Comparitech discovered the Elasticsearch database. They believe that
the database belongs to a cybercriminal organization rather than
Facebook. Diachenko went to the ISP managing the IP address to remove
it. The database was left unsecured on the web for nearly
two weeks before it was removed.
- Facebook Moves To Build Its Own OS To Free Itself Of Google
Android Shackles - In an effort to lessen its dependence on
established operating systems,
including Android and iOS, Facebook is developing its own from the
ground up. One reason why this is important to Facebook is because
it
is so involved with hardware in the virtual reality space, with its
acquisition of Oculus and future plans.
- InvisibleShield Offers Camera Lens Protection - InvisibleShield,
a leading brand for transparent phone screen protectors, has expanded
its offerings to include clear lens protectors for the three cameras on
the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max. GlassFusion Hybrid Glass Camera Lens
Protection is made from a "hybrid" glass material that absorbs
shock, disperses impact, and protects the lenses from scuffs and
scratches. An oleophobic coating means smudges and fingerprints wipe
away easily. The product consists of three separate protectors, one for
each camera lens. GlassFusion Hybrid Glass Camera Lens Protection is available from zagg.com for $15.
- Congress Passes Anti-Robocall Bill - The Senate this week
passed the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence
(TRACED) Act, a bill aimed at fighting the scourge of unsolicited
robocalls. The House of Representatives passed the bill earlier this
month, and the President is expected to sign the bill into law within
days. TRACED includes two key components: First, the FCC will now be
empowered to fine robocallers up to $10,000 for each call. Second, US
wireless companies will be required by law to implement "call
authentication technologies" such as STIR/SHAKEN, a new protocol that
fights caller-ID spoofing by securely confirming call metadata (caller
ID). Major carriers have already started to deploy STIR/SHAKEN, at the
urging of the FCC.
- Sprint Launches Basic Spam-Call Protection for Free - Sprint
has joined T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T in offering a free service
with basic protection against fraud and spam callers. Like the free
services already offered by other carriers, Sprint's new Call Screener Basic can block the highest-risk
fraud calls, and identify other likely spam calls as they ring.
Sprint's new free service also include caller-ID for businesses. A
premium version, called Call Screener Plus, runs $3/month and includes
advanced caller-ID for personal lines, plus options to automatically
block lower-risk spam calls. Users of Sprint Call Screener will receive
a free 15-day trial of Sprint Call Screener Plus. Android phones sold
by Sprint should already have the app. iPhone users can download the app from the App Store.
