UT2004 Interview - interview

HomeLAN has posted an interview with Cliff Bleszinski of Epic Games as he talks about Unreal Tournament 2004, the upcoming next game in their multiplayer first person shooter series. Here is an excerpt:
HomeLAN - The Assault gameplay type is back for UT 2004. How would you describe the gameplay for the new Assault as opposed to its appearance in the original UT?

Cliff Bleszinski - First and foremost you can actually figure out where you're going and what you're doing in the new Assault. There are HUD indicators that show where the next objective is along with a racing game style "3d arrow" that guides you to your next objective. When you spawn in the game a voice over says "You are attacking - hijack the prototype tank" (or whatever your current objective is...) Confusion is greatly reduced.

Second, we're being pro-active with removing map specific exploits. First, shield gun jumping is limited a fair amount in Assault. Players can only impart a limited amount of momentum on their allies. Finally, in the majority of the levels, the objectives must be completed within a specified order. We've taken into account the worst case griefer behavior this time and have attempted to prevent the majority of those behaviors.

i have seen screenshots, hardly any difference from UT2003, the only addition is the useable jeeps and shite. They could just make a patch for UT2003, it would really save money.

That is why the year is in the name now. They are going to come out with a new version every year so you have to re-buy the game every single year. $50 is a high price to pay for a patch. I wouldn't pay that much for a FUN game, much less UT2KX. I must say that UT2KX has good graphics, but it is unbelievably boring. I get sick of playing it after about 10 minutes. The first UT was allot fun though.

These guys have had three shots at making a good game, but the franchise remains some of the most clueless game design going. Forget this and get HL 2.
