UK Gamer Gets Refund over PS3's Linux Loss - console

According to PlayStationUniversity.com, a European law grants a partial refund to PS3 consumers due to the recent removal of the OtherOS feature in the PS3 Firmware v3.21 update.

A PS3 owner (60GB) version has managed to gain a partial refund from Amazon UK(without returning the system) due to the removal of the OtherOS feature. The EU citizen cited a European law which states a product must be fit for its purpose which was made known to the seller at the time of purchase, and as a result he managed to receive around 80GBP back! Amazon UK will probably turn around and bill Sony for the total amount refunded to any buyers. Not only that, this could apply to all retailers.

Despite some refunds being granted, today Sony UK has officially apologized for the OtherOS removal in the recently released PS3 Firmware 3.21 update citing PS3 piracy concerns as the underlying factor.

I was really ticked off when they did this. Like HuGE! I've sworn now to never touch another thing Sony for the rest of my life.

The only reason they removed this is because once you got Linux on this thing you could do ANYTHING and break the limitations Sony imposed on the PS3. Eg. media playback, playing other games outside of PS3 Network. I had so many things worked out on my OtherOS it really pisses me off they can just go and remove it. If this is how Sony does business and LIES to people about security, they can go fuck themselves because I wont spend another penny on anything with Sony label on it. Some lucky prick gets money back on top of it.. what a joke!
