(hx) 02:01 PM CEST - Aug,10 2010 - Post a comment / read (1)
  • Mafia 2 PC demo - The demo is now out through Steam for PC users!
  • Ship Simulator Extremes Goes Gold - Paradox Interactive has announced that Ship Simulator Extremes is ready to set sail. The development has been completed and the pre-order has started on leading digital distribution outlets. As an exclusive bonus from select distribution sites, pre-orders for the game will grant the unique bonus fishing vessel "Sigita" and six bonus missions to feature more challenges as you endeavor in the rescue attempts of your fellow vessels. Watch for Ship Simulator Extremes to release on August 27th.
  • StarCraft II pro tournaments announced -  GomTV has announced the formation of the Global StarCraft II League (GSL), which will be run by the South Korean company and is open to players of all nationalities, though the initial tournaments held in 2010 and all of the finals will take place in Seoul, South Korea. TeamLiquid.net reports that the total prize money for the 2010 edition of the GSL is $500,00 which they claim "the most amount of money in the history of e-sports." Monthly tournaments will be held starting in late August with the grand prize winner getting $85,700. The tournaments of 2010 will serve to rank the players for the 2011 edition of the GSL. All of the monthly tournaments will be broadcast globally. In related news, the US based pro gaming organization Major League Gaming has announced that StarCraft II has been added to the league's roster of game titles. The first MLG event that will host the game will be held in Raleigh on August 27-29 with $7,000 in prizes to be won.
  • Split/Second Has New Content In/Coming - Split Second is set to get four downloadable content packs in the next couple of months, according to the game's Facebook page. The first set of DLC will include new liveries for Elite vehicles. The second pack, titled the "High Octane" Supercar Pack, includes a new vehicle. The third pack will be free, and include a special edition car based on the Ryback Cyclone vehicle. A fourth pack is coming in September, which will include a new environment for racing. Pricing and specific release dates weren't included in the announcement, but other DLC unlock packs have ranged from $3-5. We'll know about the prices of these new packs soon enough.
  • Disciples III v1.06.2 Patch - This patch updates the retail box release of The Disciples III: Renaissance to v1.06.2. It features fixes a number of bugs and gameplay issues
  • Remedy Wants to do Alan Wake 2, Would Remain Exclusive to Microsoft - Alan Wake developer Remedy would like to do a sequel with Microsoft and even though Remedy owns the rights to the franchise, any future games would remain Microsoft exclusive.
  • Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Collector's Edition Includes Jack-in-the-Box - The Collector's Edition will be available for the Xbox 360 and PS3 alongside the standard edition on November 16, 2010. The oversized box includes: Jack-in-the-Box Collectible ('Harlequin' character, pictured above, exclusive to GameStop, 'Doctor' character at all other retailers),  Two Exclusive In-Game Single Player Maps, Hard Copy Strategy Map of Rome, Exclusive Art Book, Bonus Disc: Exclusive Making-of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood Video, Bonus Disc: Digital Sneak Peak at the Assassin's Creed Comic, Bonus Disc: Trailers, Bonus Disc: Game Soundtrack.  Assassin's who pre-order Brotherhood at GameStop will also gain access to the upcoming multiplayer beta, which begins on September 13.
  • Dragon Age Origins: Ultimate Edition Listed - Gamestop is currently showing a 'Dragon Age Origins: Ultimate Edition'; available for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The vague listing shows a shipping date of 10/12/2010. Nothing has been announced and there are no further details, but if one were to take a guess then Ultimate Edition will likely include all expansions and add-ons released to date.
  • Killzone 3 Beta Site Launches; Beta Test Likely - It could always be a test of the game's companion website. A Sony representative informed Shacknews that 'Guerrilla Games is currently testing a number of elements internally with Killzone 3 and further details will be available soon.' A beta test was conducted for Killzone 2 prior to that game's release and it stands to reason that Killzone 3 would be tested as well. It remains to be seen if a beta, if planned, will be one of the bonuses included with a PlayStation Plus subscription as one of the advertised features is priority betas. The game, which will support PlayStation Move and stereoscopic 3D, is scheduled to be released in February 2011.
  • Sparkplay Media to shut down - It looks like yet another free-to-play MMO is close to shutting down, barring a last minute reprieve. On Sunday the official Earth Eternal website posted up a message from Matt Mihaly, the CEO of the game's developer Sparkplay Media. In short, he stated that the company has run out of money, laid off nearly all of its employees (only he and one other team member remain) and the game itself could shut down unless someone else agrees to acquire it and keep it running.
