- WoW versus Aion: Graphics comparison of the
MMORPGs - PC Games Hardware assembled a graphics comparison between Aion
and WoW: 'The first visual impression of Aion is impressive -due to the
Cryengine 1. Aion offers a huge richness of detail and the character
creation delivers a lot of options - thus it might be unlikely that you
will encounter virtual twins. In matters of graphics the new Aion wins,
as expected, the comparison with WoW. But gaming is not all about the
graphics; a MMORPG has to offer more than just the looks. It will take
at least weeks if not months before a final conclusion for this
competition between WoW and Aion can be drawn.'
- Risen - Interview with Mike Hoge at GameReactor -
GameReactor has an interview with
PB's Michael Hoge as a follow up to his GenCon presentation we linked
to last week. In it he compares how Risen is different from and in some
ways better that the earlier Gothic games
- LucasArts: Old Republic MMO could have multiple
payment options - LucasArts president Darrell Rodriguez has told GameIndustry.biz
that subscriptions and microtransaction business models may be deployed
when Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO launches.
No specific business model has been unveiled, but when speaking to the
site at GamesCom, Rodriguez said that the company wants the business
model to appeal to all regions.
- Arsenal of Democracy Announced - Paradox
Interactive sent out a press release
announcing Arsenal of Democracy, a new game based on Hearts of
Iron II being developed by mod team BL-Logic planned for release in
December of this year.[
- Cities XL US Demo - Monte Cristo has
released a playable demo of CITIES XL,
giving you the chance to try out this game which will hit the store
shelves across North America on October 9th, 2009, the same day when
the game will be available in Europe. Word is: "Players will be able to
build their city across three available maps (the full version of the
game will include 25 maps for solo mode and 50 for the Planet Offer).
Inter-city trading, the chat function and a limited avatar builder have
all been included, along with the possibility to visit Capital City, a
town that offers an example of what can be created with Cities XL."
- Darkest of Days Available - Darkest
of Days (demo), the new first-person
shooter from 8monkey Labs, is now available in North America, offering
the chance to change history by influencing the outcome of some famous
historical battles. The game is available via digital distribution on Direct2Drive and Steam
News, with Steam offering a 10% discount until September 15.
- Mini Ninjas Ships - Eidos Interactive
announces that Mini Ninjas is now available,
offering this miniaturized martial arts action/adventure from IO
Interactive for Windows, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and DS
- Free Batman: Arkham Asylum DLC in 9 days -
If you've spent more than a few seconds in the menu screen for Batman:
Arkham Asylum you may have noticed that there is a marquee ticker near the bottom.
If you watch the ticker today you'll notice that there is a message
about free DLC coming in 9 days with no mention of what will be added
to the already amazing game. No other details on the content are available yet, outside of Eidos' confirmation that it will hit all platforms (PC, 360, PS3) simultaneously.
- Final Fantasy XIII Dated & More - At
the pre-Tokyo Games
Show event, Square Enix announced the game will be available in Japan
on December 17th. As for the rest of the world... /Shrug. There's also
a new trailer.
- Microsoft Forces Valve to Price Left 4 Dead DLC on
Xbox 360 - The decision to charge for the
Xbox 360 version of the upcoming "Crash Course" Left 4 Dead DLC was
ultimately made by Microsoft, according to Valve's Chet Faliszek.
- Prey Now Owned by Zenimax - In what
hopefully turns out to be awesome news for fans of the first game
ZeniMax (Bethesda) now owns the Prey IP. Perhaps they
will put a new game into the works? When contacted, Bethesda offered
the industry-standard "no comment."
- PS3 Firmware 3.0 Q&A answers some
questions you may have - Over on the EU PS Blog, a Q&A is posted on the
latest Firmware update for PS3.
