  • MS Defends Missing Xbox 360 Hard Drive - Xbox boss J Allard said in an online chat this weekend that Microsoft decided to leave the hard drive out of the core system package to reduce the obstacles standing in front of would-be gamers:  "The thing to remember is that while we designed a no-compromises game system, a huge percentage of our customers are not like the folks in this chat room. Recognize that more than 75 per cent of the folks on Xbox have not played Halo."
  • RadioShack.com to offer 1100+ games and Xbox 360s?-  If a CAG forum user (with a relevant corporate logo as his or her avatar) is to be believed, however, RadioShack will begin to offer over 1100 games and a bit more hardware on RadioShack.com by the end of the month, including pre-orders for the Xbox 360.
  • HoMM 5 & Starforce Copy Protection - It was recently rumored that Ubisoft may be using a program called Starforce to protect the new Heroes game against piracy, just like it does with its other major games. Fabrice Cambounet confirmed on the official site that Starforce will indeed be used, answered several questions about that copy-protection system and posted a document about how it works. What does this all mean to you? Well if you planned to acquire Heroes V by illegitimate means, then you are going to have some problems. If you are going to buy a legit copy of the game, you will need to live with a third-party tool and deal with its shortcomings. (thanks CelestialHeavens)
  • Sony, Toshiba don't agree on DVD format - Japanese electronics giants Sony and Toshiba have failed to agree on a unified format for next-generation DVDs, according to a newspaper report Tuesday.
  • Torvalds weighs in on Linux trademark row - Linux founder Linus Torvalds is defending protection of the Linux trademark and insists that sublicensing is a loss-making operation. "Not only do I not get a cent of the trademark money, but even (the Linux Mark Institute, which actually administers the trademark) has so far historically always lost money on it," Torvalds said in a posting to the Linux Kernel Mailing List.
  • ID theft spyware scam uncovered  - Security firm Sunbelt Software said it stumbled across a US-based server storing megabytes of data stolen from compromised computers while researching spyware infections. The server held passwords for online accounts from 50 banks, Ebay and Paypal logins, hundreds of credit card numbers and reams of personal data.
  • The unofficial Windows XP Service Pack 3 - Betatesteur.com has created a hotfix pack (free reg. required), it has the complete collection of pre-SP3 hotfixes listed on www.thehotfix.net.
  • Pod2Mob Makes Your Mobile a Podcasting Machine - Pod2Mob has created a system for turning podcasts to files that are playable through a mobile applet on almost any phone. Considering most phones have pretty crappy audio playback and no one in the US listens to music on their phones—yet—it's a great way to become an early, early adopter.
  • BBC's 'Doctor Who', 'Red Dwarf' arrive on mobiles - The BBC is selling classic episodes of 'Doctor Who' and 'Red Dwarf' for viewing on mobile phones, anticipating that fans of cult science fiction are often among the first to adopt new technology.
  • Halo Movie Set For Summer 2007 Release - Master Chief is gunning for the bigscreen in summer '07. Fox and Universal have closed their deal to make a movie based on Microsoft's hit vidgame "Halo," with plans for a tentpole in two years.

People complaining about Xbox prices makes me laugh.. Gee nearly a complete system for under $500, Wow and modern gfx that look fantastic and work even up to a HDTV! Yet, EVERYONE doesn't bitch when a VIDEO CARD!! 1 COMPONENT OF A WHOLE COMPUTER COSTS $800 and it's OK!?!!! I say F U all. Bunch of whiners. Too bad they didn't make it $100 for you. Pfffff! People should concentrate on the REAL theft going on and thats ATI and nVidia who are ripping people off left right and center.

Yeah, I 100% agree. That's why I willl buy Xbox 360 :)

So you buy an XBox for under 500$. And then you get some addons for 50$, a nice peripheral for 100$, and some XBox live subscriptions for some more $$$, and this, n that... :)

On a side note; there was an article somewhere recently which states that even the PC enthusiast aren't spending all that cash on latest GPUs anymore, but the rich'n'stupid :) I believe it and doubt that anyone who has some knowledge about latest video hardware actually buys that. I mean, the prices are gonna drop fast, and all that extra money could have earned you a nice peace of *****.
I got myself a budget card 1 year before today, picked by hand. It served me well, but soon it's time for 6800 :).

Oh and like Mr. Carmack said in the Quakecon keynote: "The fact is that those cosoles are pretty much as powerfull as today's high end PC".

Prices for high end PC hardware are gonna drop, but the XBox prices will stay solid for some time ;). It's not even out yet...

The reason I'll never buy an Xbox360:
I should consider myself lucky here in Ukraine because I have enough money to buy an A2500 1Gb ram R9800Pro computer and all the games we play here are pirated (hehe) thus they cost from 5 to 7 bucks; you can't buy at least a few decent games for consoles in Ukraine (you still can't buy an Xbox here, thus no games available for it) and I could never afford to pay 50$ for a game, I have no such money.
Conclusion: no nextgen for me :(
