GamingGroove have posted a new multiplayer preview of
Tribes: Vengeance, the upcoming sci-fi shooter from Irrational Games and
VUGames. Tribes: Vengeance is scheduled to ship in October 2004. Here is an
excerpt:
The vehicles in Tribes: Vengeance have been totally revamped. The most interesting of the changes to vehicles is the fighter. Gone is the F16-type of craft you saw in Tribes 1, say hello to the "Gladiator" ball fighter (hehe). It shoots explosive bullets (semi-automatic) and has a lot of maneuverability. Along with that you have a standard tank, a "rover" which is basically a buggy, and lastly you have an assault ship which is more of a hovercraft like that seen in Tribes 2. The rover and tank are the "ground" vehicles but both have a booster that, in the tanks case, thrusts it high into the air. The vehicle line-up in Tribes: Vengeance is balanced and a pretty helpful to the ground forces, all in all. I did find that the Rover is a bit on the fast side, and the thruster it has on it is unlimited, in other words from the time you get into the Rover from the time you get out, you can have the thruster going full blast the whole way through. From the beginning of the ride, until the end. I'm not sure that is a good idea, although the physics of it aren't that great either. If you are sitting idle in the Rover and hit boost, nothing happens, you'd think you'd at least shoot forward. The rover, even with it's problems is a good run-and-gun vehicle, although not a troop-transport like you might expect it to be.
