Trailers Sell More Games Than Demos - briefly

MTV Multiplayer has posted details on an interesting study from the Electronic Entertainment Design and Research Group (EEDAR) showing that games promoted with trailers sold better than games with playable demos offered prior to the games release. Word is: "While demos may be effective at producing word-of-mouth, the EEDAR found that the highest selling games on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 produced buzz via Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network with trailers alone. There are some other interesting bits extrapolate, so let’s look at how the sales break down…Though demos have become commonplace a few weeks ahead of a game’s release, the EEDAR found that trailers are more effective than hands-on time with the product. Short and Zatkin actually recommended publishers start producing demos only after release to avoid interference with the final weeks of polish."

Not really surprised by this, with a demo you get to see a lot of the flaws before hand and can give you the option of skipping really awful titles that have a very vocal if misguided fan club.

On saying that if companies don't give decent demo's or in the case where you have to download an obscenely large file as with recent titles I wouldn't be surprised if more people download a ripped version to see if its worth spending their cash.

So many games these days just aren't worth what they cost and people seem to be getting fed up buying shiny new incredibly expensive coasters.

What it's saying is that trailers sold more games than actual demos, not the other way around. :shock:
Some very narrow minded individuals out there.... CGI is NOTHING like the actual game nor gameplay. GRAW2 (trailer) being a perfect example.

Yes, sorry that's what I meant, if you play a demo your more likely to decide not to buy it.
