Top 7 Reasons For a PC Gamer To Get Windows 7 - briefly
(hx) 01:00 AM CEST - Jul,23 2009 - Post a comment / read (11)
VE3D has posted Microsoft's Top 7 Reasons for a PC gamer to get Windows 7:
1) Performance To quote a coworker: 'Across same hardware, Crysis runs awesome on Win7! Even better than XP!'. Code for the OS has been optimized for better all around performance for games. Whatever you're playing now should be a better experience in Windows 7.

2) Compatibility The top third-party games, services, and international versions of games have been tested in Windows 7, so you should not worry about Windows 7 breaking your games. Feel free to move to Windows 7 because whatever you're playing now should work fabulously in Windows 7.

3) Discoverability You can use Start -> Search to find any game you just downloaded or installed. No need to launch a separate application. Likewise, you won't need to launch a game to get more info about it: The Windows 7 Games Explorer can show you in-game statistics within a preview pane plus delivers up-to-date info about your favorite game publishers and gives you the opportunity to try new games.

4) Easy updates The new Games Explorer will notify you whenever updates are available for your games so you don't have to go searching for them yourself or have to launch the game to see if there's an update waiting.

5) DirectX 11 support DirectX 11 means better games, pure and simple, with more advanced features for games to use.

6) Multitouch support An increasing number of gamers are using mutltouch devices. Windows 7 supports multitouch-capable machines, so you can buy the latest and greatest multitouch laptop or desktop confident it's going to work in Windows 7.

7) Classics Here's a bonus reason for you: Windows 7 is going to bring back Internet Backgammon, Internet Spades, and Internet Checkers because you can't spend all your time hardcore.

what a load n00b shite.. how much more of this bollocks marketing must we hear for the run up to Winshite 7's release? I mean I'm waiting for Winshite 8.. maybe that might finally be an actual fucking improvement that will give me good reason to move on from my much better XP setup with shell extension and power functionality(that work!).. oh and not to mention fully working NON crippled audio and explorer functionality etc etc etc etc.

And when you play any game fullscreen on shite vis7a, it will have to disable the pretty shit looking Aero UI anyway, aka pile of shit, poor theming and customization bloated border vista transparent glass crap... ahem

so there is time wasted right there.. alt-tabbing speeds still suck.. and no real improvement to actual ingame UIs.. like making the need for alt-tab less necessary by allowing IM, browsers, etc to be overlayed in game.. where is the fucking directx improvement in that by allowing dev to use an APi that is easy to implement and offers a much better experience by allowing this type power functionality... (there was a prototype of the technology) ..so that sucks.

performance in crysis better on vis7a than xp? who gives a fukc? i'm sure its either bullshit! and not really the big picture.. or xp was just given less optimization.. says it all..xp is still better 10x in many other ways than that vis7a shit hole of an Explorer/ UI have failed at.

directx11.. yay real fucking improvements gone into that, not!.. and its NOT like were going to see any decent games for it anyway..devs will still be making games for dx9 because MS can't fucking do a decent enough job that will make XP users want to upgrade.. because they are noobtards! And we'll only get regurgitated shitty console targeted game releases anyway. besides gameplay > gfx.. this dx11 marketing bullshit fails... i think more would have woken up to this BS after the fail that was vista & dx10... this is just the same thing crap round 2.

game explorer.. wow i guess if you're noob this might be helpful NOT.. its total shit, and not helpful at all.. bit like that oversized super icon noob taskbar.. IMO... game explorer too little too late too crap... I mean what would you expect from a company like MS (retard corp).. actual decent fucking software? or the weakest possible crap they could put out and try market! ..think about it.

Win 7 = FAIL!

Win 8 = around the corner...

Tip 3 & 4 are the usual way of Microsoft to take over our control, and put some "Hey install our great Media player" nags and commercial bollocks.

Koogle>

And when you play any game fullscreen on shite vis7a, it will have to disable the pretty shit looking Aero UI anyway

Absolutely wrong. "Any game"? Maybe some API breaking bullshit, but anything made or updated in the past two years is completely compliant with Aero. Idiot.

Koogle> alt-tabbing speeds still suck..

For who? I can alt-tab between full screen applications in seconds. The new graphic APIs seem to handle it a lot better than XP ever did. Not once have I had a game crash because I alt-tabbed out, unlike XP.

Koogle> and no real improvement to actual ingame UIs..

Now I know you're retarded. You want Microsoft to fix in game UIs? That's like asking Steam to make match making better in third party titles.

Microsoft has this little thing called "Games for Windows" which allows in-game overlays for Live messaging in the same way steam does. But much like steam, developers actually have to utilize steam code for it to work. Don't blame microsoft for companies not adopting its suggested APIs.

Koogle> like making the need for alt-tab less necessary by allowing IM, browsers, etc to be overlayed in game.. where is the fucking directx improvement in that by allowing dev to use an APi that is easy to implement and offers a much better experience by allowing this type power functionality... (there was a prototype of the technology) ..so that sucks.

And you're still retarded. Do you know anything about APIs? Your browser is using a 2D API, your game is using 3D APIs. What you're asking for is for microsoft, mozilla, opera and whoever else makes browsers to redesign their browsers from the ground up to use these APIs. GUESS WHAT! There is a specially modified Mozilla browser designed to layover any game by tapping a hotkey. The APIs already exist. Developers simply don't use them.

IT'S NOT MICROSOFT'S JOB TO CODE OTHER PEOPLE'S SOFTWARE.

Koogle> xp is still better 10x in many other ways than that vis7a shit hole of an Explorer/ UI have failed at.

Your entire argument seems to revolve around the fact that XP looks different. If you had actually tried using 7 instead of getting nerd rage at screen shots, you'd know that you can turn off Aero completely and go back to classic.

Koogle> devs will still be making games for dx9 because MS can't fucking do a decent enough job that will make XP users want to upgrade.. because they are noobtards!

The people who made it possible for you to play all of your games are 'noobtards'? The people who made your current OS are 'noobtards'? Then why the fuck aren't you on Linux?

Developers continue to use DX9 because the marketshare continues to be XP. That's not because Vista and 7 are 'inferior', but because people are afraid of change and extremely fickle with having to learn anything new. Like yourself. People like you are why there aren't more DX10 games. It has nothing to do with modern OSes being 'not good enough'.

Koogle> game explorer.. wow i guess if you're noob this might be helpful NOT.. its total shit, and not helpful at all.. bit like that oversized super icon noob taskbar.. IMO... game explorer too little too late too crap...

Game Explorer has been out for two years. In Vista. Idiot.

Koogle> Win 8 = around the corner...

Win 7 = Not yet released, you fucking twat.

Win 8 = Not yet announced and therefore unable to compare or compete.

People like you are why people believe gamers to be whiny, hateful morons.

Koogle(12:41 PM CEST - Jul,23 2009 )
lol you are the idiot vis7a noob.. you even miss understood what I getting at on a number of points.

yes you can disable the aero ui.. but it doesn't help that the windows/explorer looks even more shite than it does with aero transparent crap on.

"For who? I can alt-tab between full screen applications in seconds. The new graphic APIs seem to handle it a lot better than XP ever did. Not once have I had a game crash because I alt-tabbed out, unlike XP. "

I've never had any crashes using alt-tab on XP.. and it still works a damn site faster than vis7a.. as do many other things.

"Absolutely wrong. "Any game"? Maybe some API breaking bullshit, but anything made or updated in the past two years is completely compliant with Aero. Idiot. "

plenty of games don't.. you vis7a fanboi nublet .

"Microsoft has this little thing called "Games for Windows" which allows in-game overlays for Live messaging in the same way steam does. But much like steam, developers actually have to utilize steam code for it to work. Don't blame microsoft for companies not adopting its suggested APIs. "

you think game developers should adopt MS sloppy games for windows APi.. its a fucking joke.. some weak half assed knock off of xbox live. And this is what I was getting at by in game UIs, you retard.

"The APIs already exist. Developers simply don't use them.

IT'S NOT MICROSOFT'S JOB TO CODE OTHER PEOPLE'S SOFTWARE. "

but it actually is in there best interest to fucking demonstrate and improve the experience for pc gamers enough that other game developers see the need to adopt better standards.. Ofc why would they bother when they can already milk the Xbox live platform and force pc gamers onto far more controlled and restricted market environment. .. MS are doing the bare minimum on the PC platform for a reason, and not just for gaming.. they have no real competition. Poor sighted nublets like you don't see it.

"Your entire argument seems to revolve around the fact that XP looks different. If you had actually tried using 7 instead of getting nerd rage at screen shots"

I've tested a number of shite 7 builds.. heck I actually have a contributed a number of bug reports and design suggestions that were implemented.. doesn't mean it was enough..infact I'd know since majority of feedback wasn't done anything about.. so not nearly enough for me to change from my highly customized XP setup to that noob junk of a defaulty OS.. the UI is still shit.. disabling Aero and using classic is the most noob suggestion I've heard yet. Even importing my decent XP VS styles to use, requires many changes.. and you're still stuck with using an inferior shitty OS explorer that thinks the menu bar should be the only toolbar allowed. And actual built in customization should just not exist as that would mean actual effort involved in providing such control.. and why bother.. afterall this is only going out for the noobs to buy like yourself.

"That's not because Vista and 7 are 'inferior', but because people are afraid of change and extremely fickle with having to learn anything new"

Learn anything new? lol wtf are you a complete retard? there is fucking nothing new too learn.. only shit and weak changes to put up with because what is NEW, IS NOT REALLY FUCKING BETTER ASSHOLE. And more to the point.. most vis7a things can already had for XP.. ofc all the good things actually worth using don't work well at all with vis7a.

And insignificant performance improvements are far outweighed by the shitty job they have done on the UI and UX... not to mentioned the Audio stack is still crippled after vista fuckup.. people don't buy audio hardware to have the CPU take on extra work per sound source.. especially when the only fucking benefit is per application sound control(to an extent).. something you can easily get on XP with third party software and still enjoy full audio hardware support with less %cpu usage idiot! (not something you'll see benchmarked btw, I wonder why)

"Game Explorer has been out for two years. In Vista. Idiot"

and in that time, its improvement has been diddly shit. bit like Win7 actually.

Anyway enjoy your winshite 7 experience.....what do you think they are working on now eh? another flop of an OS out the door work on Win7 is pretty much ended.. now its marketing the crap out of it time until its out.. shouldn't be too hard seeing as its fully loaded with that stuff (crap)

I'll be upgrading windows when it actually makes sense and enough third party support has improved the shitty efforts MS took to improve the OS. We all know the best OS improvements to workflow and functionality don't actually come from MS.

I have started using Vista for the first time ever this week and I like it so far. I have been using XP for years.

It's not significantly different, it just seems to do the same things that XP does but in an easier and sometimes more intuitive way. It definitely seems to "break" less and feels more solid.

I should also mention that I installed Mass Effect on it and it works brilliantly. I couldn't get it working properly on XP. Although the patch was not out yet when I tried it the first time, so it can't all be down to the OS.

I have also tried a preview copy of Windows 7 and thought it had some nice features. Again it is not a revolutionary OS, just improved and streamlined. Anything that crashes less and does less unexplained shit is great in my book.

Badmagic(07:45 PM CEST - Jul,23 2009 )
I’ll be downloading Windows Vista SP3 (aka Windows 7) on release, Mico$oft can swivel on it.

Badmagic> I’ll be downloading Windows Vista SP3 (aka Windows 7) on release, Mico$oft can swivel on it.

I've tried Windows 7 64-bit (the second RC), it crashed after 24 hours

Hopefully the final build will be less buggy.

strangestsensation(08:46 PM CEST - Jul,23 2009 )
LOL, sorry to say heretic but that's unique to you.

I have been running Win 7 beta and now RC's. Never once has it failed installation. On top of that, I've installed it on a few other PC's with no problem.

Win 7 is nice. Is it a vast improvement over Vista not really. DirectX 11? nothing uses DirectX 11 and nothing will for a while, so that article and if I am right that is the Vede from PC Gamer? He's a fucking retard to begin with. So many articles that guy did with pictures showing people the wrong things. The guy has a serious ego issue too, thinks he's hot shit when in reality he's a dumb fuck.

-Does Win7 run games better. Sure, on a clean brand new install with nothing else on. Same can be said for Vista or XP.

-Does alt-tab work better? Matter of opinion. Depends on the video card in your box. I think it works the same and games don't just go Bing! back on your screen.

-Does Win7 boot faster? Yes. After loading a system up with LOTS of stuff, it still boots way faster than Vista 64 (in my case)

-Is there really anything new in Win7, other than to me a slightly modified gui, the guts of Win 7 is clone of Vista

-Do games run seemlessly on Win7, no. Nowhere near as nice as they do on Vista. For 1 thing, you play games using Punkbuster welcome to a world of pain since punkbuster doesn't support beta/rc os's. Some games will work with PB while other games will continue to keep kicking you for unknown api's. there "IS NO SOLUTION". Solution has to come from Punkbuster

I use Vista 64 and i'm staying on it. Does it run games better than XP, yes and no. I don't find there is any difference between Vista 64 and XP. COD4 and 5 run like a charm as does any other game. On Win7, you have different outcomes depending on the game. One big problem i ran into which I never had before was widescreen support and refresh rates. On Win7 this is all f'd up and you have to mess with ur games more.

Win7 is nice, but it's no big huge change from Vista and there is NO NEED to jump on the bandwagon to get it. Would I ever go back to XP? No. XP is like a n00b OS to me now. Seriously. The tools included in Vista make XP look like what it always was a gui on top of DOS. The resource monitor for example is just totally amazing and gives great depth to see what's going on in the system. You can literally tweak and kill things that you can see for yourself running in the background. There is lots of goodness in Vista and I recommend anyone and everyone to move to it. Win7 is just more fluff on top of Vista and NO, it doesn't run games faster than Vista.. but that could change down the road.

As the token mac user on this forum: Get a mac!

Carry on!

strangestsensation(05:03 AM CEST - Jul,26 2009 )
Mac sucks, are you nuts? Talk about the next big POS out there. Fucking over priced piece of shit. I'd give up computers if I was forced to only have a mac.

Safer(08:09 AM CEST - Jul,26 2009 )
Your mum is nuts! Seriously though, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the hardware of software in a mac, the premium set on it being from Apple on the other hand I think is tiring.

Now that we have bashed each others preferences for hardware, software and mental stability of parents I suggest taking a swig of gin and go play monkey island - I sure will!
