Thursday Reading - Crysis 2 will have the best AI - briefly
(hx) 11:15 AM CEST - Jul,22 2010 - Post a comment / read (3)
  • Darkspore Preview - The easiest comparison you can make to Darkspore after you see it is Blizzard's Diablo -- a game that's arguably the king of PC action-RPGs. Like Diablo, Darkspore has several classes you can play (essentially a warrior, a mage, and a rogue) and is largely a game that drives players with the promise of greater and greater loot. However, unlike Diablo -- where the loot consisted of things like weapons and armor -- Darkspore awards the players with a series of parts that they can use to evolve their heroes.
  • Crysis 2 dev claims game will have best AI you've ever seen - Speaking exclusively to CVG, Crytek boss Cervat Yerli said the title boasted "thinking, fair" foes - which is good news for those who want their enemies smart, but not Skynet smart. OXM man Ryan King reported that the FPS was the best-looking title he'd ever seen on 360 earlier this year. Since then, Crytek has revealed that the game will be playable in full 3D on 360, PS3 and PC when it is released at the tail-end of this year.
  • Marvel Vs Capcom 3 New Characters Media Video - Just announced by Capcom, four new characters have been revealed for Marvel vs Capcom 3. Two on each side: Doctor Doom, Super-Skrull from Marvel, Trish, and Chun-Li from Capcom. Check out the reveal trailer below.
  • The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom Map Pack - The pack is $3.99 USD and here's word on its contents: "This DLC pack consists of three new multiplayer maps: The two-player map Battle of Tanholm, the four-player map Tempest Taiga, and the three-player map Fiery Chasm."
  • Alien Swarm Patched - A new patch is available to automatically update Alien Swarm, the just-released freeware top-down shooter. A number of bugs are fixed and a few exploits are removed in the new version.
  • Firearms: Source Hands-on Preview - There's a short video clip with some gameplay footage.
  • Half-Life Episode 3 AI Hints Hidden in Alien Swarm SDK? - The image, taken by forum member spinky7, shows a few references to a "blob" entity and A.I. hint nodes for it. Obviously, the speculation is already running rampant. Is this A.I. support for a new enemy in Episode 3? Perhaps something to do with the physics blobs in Portal 2? Perhaps it's just a red herring in which "blob" is just a code word for another NPC within the Half-Life universe that, if revealed, could be spoilerific! Who knows! Well, Valve does, but they certainly aren't talking about Episode 3 yet.
  • Lead and Gold Free Weekend - The Lead and Gold website announces this will be a free-to-play weekend (Thursday July 22 -> Sunday July 25) for Fatshark's wild west third-person shooter
  • Civilization V Preorder Bonuses - Direct2Drive offers preorders of Sid Meier's Civilization V Digital Deluxe Edition Besides the bonuses with the Digital Deluxe Edition, preorders will also receive the first Double Civilization and Scenario Pack for free as well as a free copy of Sid Meier’s Civilization III Complete.
  • Transformer: War for Cybertron $DLC Confirmed - Transformers: War for Cybertron is getting a $10 $DLC pack that will include the previously retailer exclusive characters and a map pack. You'll be able to expand your gameplay on July 27th on the PSN and the 28th for the Xbox.
  • Medal of Honor Xbox 360 Beta Released - Matthew Pruitt from Electronic Arts Los Angeles has announced that the Medal of Honor Xbox 360 Beta is now live. In related news, the Battlefield Blog announced that Battlefield 1943 players on the Playstation 3 (US) can now access the Medal of Honor beta.
  • Microsoft Defends Kinect Pricing - Edge Online has an article online quoting from multiple sources where Microsoft representatives try to make the Kinect stand up to the Wii and the PlayStation Move.
  • The PlayStation Move is Better, Because it Has Batteries - Kotaku has a picture out of a Sony catalog, showing off how the Move stacks up against the competition. If you read all the bullet points though, basically they just colored their column blue (which makes it cooler) and pointed out that they have rechargeable batteries when the competition doesn't. In case you didn't know, Kinect doesn't need batteries ;)
  • 48% of PC Games Sales in 2009 Were Digital - According to a report from the NPD Group, digital distribution accounted for 48% of PC games sold in the USA during 2009.
  • World of Warcraft Can Boost Your Career - Forbes reports that although videogames have long been thought of as distractions to work and education rather than aids, there is a growing school of thought that says game-playing in moderation, and in your free time, can make you more successful in your career

Those batteries in the Sony Move are needed to make that butt plug glow in the dark, otherwise it's just as lame as all the others.

NPD are more guess-timates based off a selection of people. It wouldn't surprise me if more games on Pc are now bought through digital services rather than cd. At one point in time I rather have the cd but these days, bahh, my internet is rocket fast so downloading a game like Alien Swarm only takes like a few mins. I'm sure as internet speeds ramp up globally digital downloads will kill the game stores as we know it. For me, Steam is just so god damn easy compared to the competition. Never have had a problem including cancelling pre-orders. EB was good for deals but I find Steam deals are even better now.

Problem with steam is some of their prices aren't realistic especially when there is no incentive for using your own bandwidth to download GB of data. Not only does this restrict your monthly allowance but it can reduce the gaming experience to that of 56kbps days.

Now you cant connect to the servers due to network congestion, WTF ! Upgrade your dam systems and increase the bandwidth you corporate SLAGS !
