Gamecloud - How would you describe the gameplay that you are trying to accomplish for The Outsider? David Braben - Each of the new technologies has been chosen with their game-play benefits in mind. We will of course have fancy display rendering technologies, but the emphasis is on game-play, and the most important new technology is the way we are scripting the characters. In addition we have new speech technologies, and new ways to simulate destruction of buildings (amongst other things). The user interface is pretty novel too, and we are keeping that 'under wraps' for the time being. Gamecloud - Is it possible that the game could show up on the PC as well? David Braben - Yes, certainly. However, there is a trend among publishers at the moment to expect the fifth generation consoles to significantly eat into the share of the games market on PC, and they may have a point. Currently we spend a great deal of time supporting games like Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, more than a year after launch, because the graphic card manufacturers keep changing their drivers - which cause earlier chipsets, supported by RCT3, to stop working. This continuing problem is driving people from the PC.
