We now have an official start date for that transition, and it's November 15th, a week from today. For those still subscribing, they'll be receiving cartel coins based on the number of months they have paid off, a reward for the most loyal players who have stuck around through thick and thin. The Old Republic faced steep competition from existing giants like World of Warcraft and newcomers like Guild Wars 2. Outside of their own genre they've had to deal with the surging popularity of other free to play titles like League of Legends, and both SWTOR's gameplay and subscription model seemed rather out of date by release. I don't need to reiterate what a disaster the game was for EA and Bioware. Many reports believe it to be the most expensive game ever made, and it needed a subscription model with a hefty amount of players to make back all that cash. Though the game will live on in free-to-play, I don't see how there's a road back to profitability for it.
