The news comes from the official Blogging Windows site, which also confirms that the updated OS will be dubbed Windows 8.1. You'll be able to get your hands on a public preview starting June 26 for both Win8 and Windows RT. The final version will be distributed through the Windows Store. Unfortunately, the blog post doesn't mention whether the next version of Windows will bring back the old-school Start button or allow folks to boot directly to the desktop. According to the rumor mill, booting to desktop may be a done deal, but the Start button may only return as a shortcut to the current Start screen.
  • Google Wallet Added to Gmail, Lets Users Email Money - Google today announced that it has integrated Google Wallet with Gmail, allowing Wallet users to securely email money directly to anyone else who has an email address. Money can be sent for free from checking accounts, and for low fees from credit or debit cards. The feature is slowly being made available to all Gmail users over the age of 18. Though the feature is primarily aimed at desktop users, money can be emailed from the smartphone and tablet mobile browser version of Google Wallet.

The most intriguing new feature is Google's plan to add dollar "attachments" to your Gmail messages

  • Nokia officially launches Lumia 925 with a slim aluminium body - Nokia has officially launched Lumia 925, some pictures were leaked yesterday. Finally Nokia has ditched its glossy candy coloured polycarbonate shell for a smart aluminium frame - this move will definitely attract buyers like me who wanted a Lumia with a metal body. Despite that majority of the specs inside the smartphone remains same as that of Lumia 920, Nokia has managed to bring down the weight considerably, the latest flagship weighs 46g lighter than 920. It has a 1.5Ghz Spandragon S4 dual core processor with 1GB RAM and a 2000mAh battery, but the internal memory has been reduced to 16GB. The 925 model also sports a 4.5” AMOLED HD+ display with a resolution of 1,280 x 768 and is coated with Gorilla Glass 2
  • Why 3D Printing Is Overhyped (I Should Know, I Do It For a Living) - Everyone's now aware of 3D printing - they've read about it in the papers, on blogs or seen it on TV. The mentality now seems to be that, in the future, we'll be able to download our products or make them ourselves with CAD programs, apps and 3D scanners, then just print them out, either at home, or in localised print shops. Which in turn will supposedly decentralize manufacturing, bringing it back to the West. But like the cupcake, Daft Punk's latest album, or goji berries, 3D printing is severely overhyped - and I should know, because it's what I do for a living.
  • Lockheed Martin's ADAM High Energy Laser Destroying A Rocket  - ADAM or Area Defense Anti-Munitions is a system capable of nullifying attacks from unmanned aerial vehicles or rocket attacks from the ground. It can track short-range target from a distance of 5 km to destroy it when it's in a range of up to 2 km. It could be very useful for protecting assets like military bases near the battlefield. The video shows an ADAM prototype destroying a "Qassam-like" rocket. You will be able to clearly see the laser striking and tracking the rocket to eventually take it out.
  • Bloody Red Band 'V/H/S 2' Trailer is Insanely Terrifying - V/H/S/2 is the sequel to the 2012 Sundance Film Festival selected found footage horror anthology V/H/S and this time directors Gareth Evans (The Raid), Timo Tjahjanto (Macabre) Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project) and his long time producer Greg Hale, Jason Eisener (Hobo with a Shotgun) and Adam Wingard (You're Next) are all at the helm of segments, in addition to V/H/S segment writer Simon Barrett making his directorial debut. V/H/S/2 premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival (our video review) and played SXSW 2013, but Magnolia Pictures releases it on VOD June 6th and in limited theaters July 12th.
  • Pacific Rim - Official Trailer - When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes - a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)- who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
  • Riddick Trailer - Prepare for the latest chapter of the groundbreaking saga that began with 2000's hit sci-fi film Pitch Black and 2004's The Chronicles of Riddick. The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

Instant skip. Seems MS wants people to wait until Windows 9.

Google Wallet Added to Gmail, Lets Users Email Money

Meh. Most banks do this for free in the EU (well, in the countries I have lived in) - without the need for email.

One of those things that will be trashed soon - like Wave and others.

I knew this was a hype from the start, but I am not sure how one can make a living from it - legally anyway...
