TechNews - Will Laptops Ever Replace Desktops?

ASUS 9800GTX+ Dark Knight Tested -
Having a look at the benchmarks
we can see that this ASUS’ version of the 9800GTX+ cleanly beats another special edition 9800GTX+ which had already beat the original 9800GTX+. Temperatures were a stable 41C at idle, 63C during load with stock clocks and ambient room temperature at 25C. With the overclocks applied we got 42C at idle and 64C at load which as you can see is almost no different from the original temperature readings.
The PC of 2010 -
One goal of Windows 7 is touchscreen-friendliness
(yes, comparisons to the iPhone's swipey gestures and virtual buttons have been made). MS aren't always reliable trendsetters - tablet PCs, anyone? - but this one really is looking likely, more so for laptops than for desktops. It won't hit big until 2010, but it looks certain to be part of the long-term future of PCs.
Will Laptops Ever Replace Desktops? -
Yes, laptops cost about the same initially
as equivalent desktops, but they're less reliable and more difficult and expensive to repair. I've seen a lot of relatively new laptops with dead motherboards, bad displays, or strange behavior due to overheating, though, to be fair, laptops take a lot more abuse from users than desktops do (coffee spills, dropped on the floor, etc.). Of course, I use both. I use my laptop almost daily around the house and on business trips (along with my HTC HD), but I could not work without my desktop PC! What about you?
Windows 7 Beta Taking Unusual Development Route -
Microsoft is taking an unusual (for them) path
in bringing Windows 7 to the masses. They're moving straight from the single beta release that was made available in January to a release candidate
Hacker war drives San Francisco cloning RFID passports (video) -
Some dude, using minimal equipment, drove around San Francisco
sniffing out RFID tags from drivers licenses and passports. In just 20 minutes, he found and cloned the passports of two very unaware US citizens. Watch the video, it is a bit scary!
Facebook Plans To Sell Your Data? -
Apparently companies will be able to target Facebook's members through a polling system called Engagement Ads. The article even has quotes from Facebook's global marketing director (Zuckerberg's sister) claiming that
companies are thrilled about the new system
. I'll bet they are.
Scientists discover ground-breaking material: Graphane -
The unique electronic properties of graphene
have already led researchers to look at ways the material could be used in the development of increasingly small and fast transistors

well, my labtop is bad ass, after being a desktop gamer for so long, i cringed at the thought of labtop gaming,
but then i got the aspire 8930g from bestbuy, and let me tell you that ths is a great gaming machine.
i never had overheating issues, and this display is big for labtops. 18.5 baby,

Well it works both ways, by the time you fork out for a mobo,RAM,CPU etc in a full tower you've bought a new laptop, So a laptop is perfect for everyday use -which is what they are used for, generaly.
I have a DELL inspiron 1525
As for gaming, well that's why i left the overpriced bloat that is Windoze and bought a console. Boots in about 10secs  Virus scanners, firewalls nah, don't need that bloat either just instant gaming and online MP for free 8)

I'd rather game on a console than a laptop myself. My PS3 is great for gaming online, don't have to worry about cheaters, viruses and firewalls like Stumpus said. To me a laptop is more for general purpose things.
