Machines won't bring about the economic robot apocalypse -- but greedy humans will, according to physicist Stephen Hawking.
In a Reddit Ask Me Anything session
on Thursday, the scientist predicted that economic inequality will skyrocket as more jobs become automated and the rich owners of machines refuse to share their fast-proliferating wealth.

Samsung Making 256 GB Storage Chips for Phones -
Samsung has begun manufacturing memory modules
that offer as much as 256 GB of storage. The new embedded memory chips use Universal Flash Storage 2.0. Samsung says UFS 2.0 can handle 45,000 input and 40,000 output operations per second, more than twice as fast as previous generations. The chip can move data at speeds up to 850Mbps, and write at speeds up to 260Mbps, which Samsung says is more than three times faster than high-performance micro SD cards. The 256 GB capacity is enough hold about 47 full HD movies. Samsung says the card is intended for mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablet, and laptops.

Apple Seeks Public Dialog On Security -
Apple CEO Tim Cook has
reached out to Apple employees and consumers
alike to further discuss the company's stance on encryption and the government's recent request to help it unlock an iPhone. In an email sent to employees and a Q&A published on Apple's web site, Cook reiterated his beliefs that the issue is much larger than a single phone — no matter the details of this particular case. "Some advocates of the government's order want us to roll back data protections to iOS 7, which we released in September 2013. Starting with iOS 8, we began encrypting data in a way that not even the iPhone itself can read without the user's passcode, so if it is lost or stolen, our personal data, conversations, financial and health information are far more secure. We all know that turning back the clock on that progress would be a terrible idea." The government wants Apple to create a new version of iOS that can be used to allow a brute-force attack of the iPhone in question to unlock it. Cook contends the tool, if successful, wouldn't be limited to this specific phone, and in fact, Apple has already received hundreds of similar requests from local law enforcement agencies since the FBI's request became public. Creating this tool "would be the equivalent of a master key, capable of opening hundreds of millions of locks," says Cook. "We strongly believe the only way to guarantee that such a powerful tool isn't abused and doesn't fall into the wrong hands is to never create it." To that end, Apple is calling on Congress to create some sort of commission to "discuss the implications for law enforcement, national security, privacy, and personal freedoms. Apple would gladly participate in such an effort." Apple has been ordered to unlock the phone, but is disobeying the order. A hearing over the matter has been scheduled for March 22.
FBI Director Admits Apple Encryption Case Could Set Legal Precedent -
Putting the whole issue of legal precedent aside for a moment, why doesn't the FBI just have someone else crack the phone? John McAfee (speaking of crack) said he could do it, so why not use him or another 3rd party?
The director of the FBI has conceded that future judges
will look to his battle with Apple as a precedent for law enforcement access to locked or encrypted mobile devices, the first time the government has conceded that the implications of the case stretch beyond an investigation into the San Bernardino terrorist attacks.
Microsoft Adds Fingerprint Support to Android Lock Screen -
Microsoft recently updated
its Next Lock Screen app for Android devices
with support for fingerprint readers. Now, people who own Android handsets that are equipped with fingerprint sensors can use the fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone and bypass the Next Lock Screen. The app also gains smart contacts, which learns and displays the names of people called or texted. The smart lock feature lets users set rules for whether or not a passcode is needed when at home or work. The update also restores location-based wallpapers and fixes bugs. Microsoft's Next Lock Screen for Android is free to download from the Google Play Store.

Xiaomi gave the phone a Sony 16-megapixel main camera with four-axis optical image stabilization and dual-LED flash. The Mi 5 will ship with a 3,000mAh battery with support for Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0. The Mi will pack Cat. 12 LTE, as well as WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and NFC. It runs Android 6.0 with Xiaomi's MIUI 7 user interface. The Mi 5 will launch in China on March 1, with India to follow shortly thereafter. Just a thought: If robots replace workers - will robots buy the products? Because, ex-workers won't be able to afford to buy jack shit. So how is this "robots" thing feasible theory? Sure, there will be some people working, but a lot of people will be out of jobs at some point and will be redundant to industry, market and economy. They will be then...disposed off? I don't see how the small % that keeps working will make up for the majority that is getting laid off. In the light of that - I can only see a small bump in fortune and then a huuugeee down in fortune to those that think that robots are a good idea if they change nothing in regards to economy.

It's mostly because you don't cater to people without money and the rich will always be more rich while the poor - even more poor. Robots can do pretty much anything that a human can do, one can only imagine that they'd be able to do even more things in the future. There are a lot of work being occupied by robots because it's *cough* safer *cough*. While this is true a robot can easily remove several job slots in one go. A human worker is only viable if the cost is low and you know where in the world you'd have to be for that to even work.
The real problem like always isn't that a machine can do a human job(and often better). It's that humans breed, more offspring means more people. Simply put there are way too many humans already and more are coming every day. A real blow will come once machines can actually sell merchandise in a shop at a low buying and running cost. All of the sudden a shop can be open 24/7 at a fraction of a cost compared to having humans working in it. The technology isn't really there yet, there are cases in Japan I believe where this is kinda working but, it's obviously very expensive.

The key is to imagine a world without money or trade at all.
Just people who do anything they want with their days, while their jointly owned robots manufacture the goods and services they need.
Make the robots into the new working class - they're just machines so we can work them 24/7 without a qualm. Then all humans can be in the ownership class and have everything they need provided just for the asking, and most things they want.
Capitalism vs communism vs dictatorship isn't the argument, really; all those are really bad, some a little worse than others, but they're all horrible. The proper alternative is a society that isn't at all competition based, like all those three are, but fully cooperation based. Something entirely new. Something we can create now, thanks to the machine efficiency we have invented.
The Free World Charter is one place to start looking for more on this train of thought. There are plenty of other organizations who want to scrap competition as well.

Honestly? Very bad and naive idea. Also, sounds like perfect communism just with robots doing the work.
